The Dead Of 2015

Recommended Posts

President of La Societe Guernesiaise, important political figure of Guernsey and a 'world authority on bats' Pat Costen dies after a short illness at 71:

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-guernsey-34256916

Not too long ago, she was in the news because two calves 'invaded' her home.

From that article:

Mrs Costen, originally from Yorkshire, was also the society's archivist and librarian, the head of the junior section and headed up the affiliated Guernsey Bat Group.

I guess La Societe Guernesiaise hasn't many members left now.

Sir David Willcocks, famous British Choral Conductor, has died- he directed the Bach Choir and was head of the Royal College of music, and did the music for Charles and Di's wedding- a very old guy, born in 1919- http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-34281143

YoungWillz must be really pissed off this week.

Of course I did. You put old Mr Willcocks as a suggestion in a now locked thread, I checked but I'm useless at cross-quoting across different threads so I mentioned your earlier suggestion. http://www.deathlist.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=7118&p=237116

Saw nowhere to put a professional hurler :-(

The Tipperary hurler and footballer Eddie Connolly has died. He had battled brain cancer for two years.

The 29-year-old Loughmore-Castleiney native took ill while playing in the Tipperary senior hurling semi-final in 2013, and underwent surgery the following week in Cork.

I didn't realize he was but 29 years old. Goodness! Coulda put him in Under 45 thread but prefer him in Taking the Micks :-) I'll happily give you the honour of creating it if you wish. I'm 20% Celtic give or take though it be my most celebrated percentage--and surname.

His fame is tenuous but I've seen worse. Plus I used to have quite a fish collection once.

Joseph R. Geraci, a scientist and veterinarian who was a leading expert in marine mammal medicine and aquatic wildlife conservation and a former official of the National Aquarium in Baltimore, died Sept. 10 at his home in Leesburg, Va. He was 77.

One would assume he's using the cock-er-nee slang, brown bread=dead. Either than or he grinds the bones of the deceased for flour.

Cockney Rhyming Slang The most common word for Dead Brown Bread you can also say Dead Father Ted Dead Right Said Fred

Alternatives 'He's Right Said Fred.' Dead (from Brown Bread = Dead) Hovis 'He's Hovis mate, Brown Bread'

Utter horse shit.

Brown bread = dead, and it also adds an extra little nuance to my name Toast (another synonym for dead), since toast can be described as brown bread.

And of course, if you come from up here, there's the phrase "pan breed", which I believe was forever immortalized by Taggart (and the DDP of course).

Poor rhyme, that.

Agreed BUT Guest decided to lump in modern slang together with cockney rhyming slang which is completely wrong!

Sorry that is agreed, some of that is modern, brown bread is the traditional phrase, but I also like the words they have for parts of the body, like boat for face (boat race)
