RoverAndOut 4,746 Posted August 3, 2022 Something away from the Tory leadership contest for a change. RoverAndOut 4,746 Posted August 12, 2022 5 hours ago, TQR said: Your house is on fire. Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves is offering to spit on it. Labour are terrified. They've spent a decade being labelled at every opportunity as profligate with the public finances. They've been labelled as socialist rabble rousers, who are out of touch with a nation who wants Brexit. They've lost their Scottish heartlands to the left and their northern heartlands to the right and have been misrepresented at every turn by the right wing press. They're gun shy. The last truly comprehensive election results they can focus on saw the Tories, who had been in office a decade, secure their biggest majority in 30 years. What message does that send? No government in history has lost a majority like that in a single election. They tack too far to the left, they lose out to the Lib Dems in the home counties and the Tories just keep saying 'Jeremy Corbyn' as often as they can. They tack too far to the right, they're accused of selling out and not being radical enough. I want Labour to win the next election, I wish they were running rings round the Tories and offering a radical alternative to the problems we face but I also know lots of the same dickheads who voted them in in huge numbers in 2019 will listen to the Mail and the Sun and Mad Nad and Victorian Jacob and will be more than happy to give that lovely Liz Truss a chance to fix the country, because, after all, it's all Labour's fault we're in this mess in the first place, right? 1

The SNP are not truly left wing. Scotland is naturally left wing and the SNP have changed their spots until they get their pretenderendum. If they win that you will suddenly find they have no issue with austerity.

TQR 14,396 Posted August 26, 2022 After Liz Truss responds to the fairly xenophobic question “Is Macron a friend or foe” with an (on-brand) extraordinarily crass and thick answer of “Jury’s out”, Macron is asked about this. Warning for gammons: he’s speaking in foreign. Translation: "It is never good not to lose these bearings too much. The United Kingdom is a friendly nation, regardless of its rulers, sometimes in spite of its rulers.” I am not exactly a Macron cheerleader but credit where it’s due, this is a great, classy answer. And listen to the giggling before the answer. The UK is literally a laughing stock now. 3

I remain hopeful that she won’t act quite as fascistic and dangerous as PM as she has been projecting to the disgusting crowds at the hustings, but I still doubt those who aren’t stinking rich will see any kind of improvement in living standards any time soon. My prediction is she’ll just be Boris with slightly smaller tits. As for her cabinet, it’s bound to be awful; pretty much all the competence and decency in the Tory party (hard to believe now but there was some once) was purged in 2019. From what I’ve heard & read, Khazi Kwarteng is poised to become Chancellor. Dorries the downstreamer is likely to stay at DCMS (FFS!). Apparently Rees-Morgue will get a promotion, Thérèśé Ćòfféŷ will remain in cabinet and Kemi Badenough is set for Education Secretary. It’s mindblowingly bad. You’d think, having said all that, the polls should crush the Tories like a beetle under a boot. But I’ve lost faith in this country and its electorate so much that I wouldn’t put money on it.

And that doesn't take into account the tactical voters like me. I'll be voting Lib Dem as they have held my constituency in the past, with Labour a very distant third. Ideally everyone else should back off and leave it to the Lib Dems to see off the Tories. Doubt they will be that sensible though.
