gcreptile 10,939 Posted September 29, 2022 John McCain once said that Russia is a gas station masquerading as a country. The United Kingdom has to decide now if it wants to be an off-shore tax haven masquerading as a country.

The Daily Fail keep warning us about how important it is to keep the Labour-SNP coalition of chaos out of Downing Street, as if what we've currently got hasn't been chaotic nonsense for the best part of a decade.

YoungWillz 20,919 Posted September 29, 2022 MSP Liz Smith (Conservative) looked like she had been slapped across the face at First Minister's Questions today, after asking her question and being given a lesson on the cost of living by Sturgeon. Wish I could have screenshotted it here. Yes, the Scottish Parliament is currently in session and working, while Westminster enjoys another break for the party conference season. At least the SNP are being held accountable for the Ferguson ferry contract shite, which the vast majority of folk sadly don't care about because they don't know if the Bank will own their house by January. It isn't, but it'd still be a new world.

Time and time again she was pilloried. Every time, she tried to blame it on Putin's war. She claimed it was a global issue. She tried to take credit for intervening on energy prices when the country has been SCREAMING for the government to act all summer. Hilariously, in at least two of them, she claims that she doesn't understand why people are opposed to her necessary interventions in the energy crisis, as if that's why we're all pissed off and not the fact she's giving her banker friends a 10 grand bonus. If you have a spare hour, I heartily recommend listening to the full hour of all 8 interviews. Unbridled fury from Kent to Leeds to Bristol. The Bristol one was particularly tasty. Not sure if our international friends will be able to listen but if you're UK-based, it's well worth a listen. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0d3flmh I think Dan Snow has summed it up best :
Lord Fellatio Nelson 6,218 Posted September 29, 2022 Huw Pill, the BOE Chief Economist, has stated that 'Over the course of the past week, there has be a significant repricing of financial assets. Part of that re-pricing reflects broader global developments. Part of it reflects the ongoing normalisation of macroeconomic policy after the pandemic-induced episode of exceptional ease. But there is undoubtedly a UK-specific component'. 'As the Governor said in his statement on Monday afternoon, we are monitoring financial markets developments – and, in particular, that UK-specific component – very closely'. Nowt more to say.

Yeah, you're right. We're not Korean, so it will be so much different. Just like it was in Germany, Italy, Spain, Yugoslavia, the Soviet Union (and modern Russia), Romania...you get the idea. Dictatorship is dictatorship.

Absolutely, don't believe things "can't happen here" - there was a guy from the IMF on the BBC last night pointing out he's seen the kind of economic policies and announcement we managed last week, but they're usually in "developing economies" and never before in G7 countries. So it is happening here.
