There was a time when people like this would have been laughed out of the building. Now they're appointed cabinet ministers...

OK, so it is now becoming clear that absolutely NOBODY is capable of winning a vote to be the new Speaker of the House of Representatives. Republicans have today held a series of votes to reduce the 9 candidates who put their names forward to be the new Speaker down to a single nominee to put to the floor vote. 2 hours ago, that nominee was the Majority Whip Tom Emmer. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-67209841

Less than an hour ago, Tom Emmer withdrew his name from consideration, after 20 Republicans and President fraud defendant Donald Trump said they wouldn't support him. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-67212260

The Republicans can only afford to lose 4 votes to still hold a majority. There are more than 4 nutjobs who will only vote for a nutjob and enough moderates to stop that from happening. Anybody who does a deal with the Democrats is looking at career suicide in the current Republican party, so there is absolutely no way forward at present.

Looks like the UN is going to end up splitting in two with Israel fast heading towards withdrawal. Feels like the start of withdrawing from the UN becoming a debating point in many countries politics.

So...tell me...if I could be bothered to scroll back through the archives, would I find any instances of you predicting a tidal wave of countries leaving the EU after the Brexit referendum in 2016? Israel's pissed off because Guterres had the audacity to call out their actions whilst also condemning Hamas. Israel will not leave the UN, because the USA will tell them not to leave the UN. Anyway, isn't the whole Middle East supposed to be on fire by now according to your predictions last week?

Silly me. Turns out I underestimated the resolve of the moderates. Apparently, a moderate pick for the Speakership is Jim Jordan's right hand man - a man who less than 3 years ago voted not to certify the result of the last Presidential election. An election denier is about to be third in line to the Presidency. Oh, and Donald Trump's delighted, which tells you all you need to know...

I’m not sure Isreal will listen to the USA.

It means in January 2025 only Trump will be able to be President. If Biden wins re election he won’t be certified

How do you square that? We've already established the Republicans have an 9 seat majority in the chamber, meaning only 5 votes against the party would be required to defeat the motion.

Add to that the law change Tango has mentioned above OR consider the fact there is at least an even-money chance that the Republicans lose control of the House again next November and the new Congress is in session before the certification of the Electoral College, so the Democrats would control the process. Your reading of any significant event is just sensationalist bullshit.

I think it will might well suit Keir Starmer if some shadow minsters resign over Gaza. He needs to hold firm with the sensible position he has or the Corbynista viewpoint wins and that would be very damaging  for him,

Which shadow ministers are holding what "Corbynista" viewpoint? In your own words, not just a link.

Calling for a total ceasefire is quite a non mainstream view in the UK.

Okay, I’ll rephrase my question, which shadow ministers are holding what “Corbynista” viewpoint?
