Octopus of Odstock 2,187 Posted November 29, 2006 So I guess the DDP will still be staying on giving points in a banded layout, but with the lower band starting at aged 16 and rigged to giving more value to young ill people that those who die in old age. I was going to add one or two further suggestions should they run with the 125 point hit minus age. The only trouble with that suggestion is so many people fudge their age their would be a big argument about how many points should be awarded. For example this year, Lou Rawls, Al Lewis, Charlie Williams, to name just three. Then there's those who we don't know the birthdates for... Firstly, under-16s (rather than under-18s) will be banned from being picked. Voting was split pretty much 50-50 on this question, so we decided to go for a compromise. As someone pointed out, 16 is the age when people can (in the UK at least) legally buy cigarettes to set themselves on the way to the grave, so it seems an appropriate cutoff point! Secondly, about 85% of you voted for the new scoring system, so that's carried, with some changes to the age bands, including 2 new ones to award fewer points for really ancient coffin-dodgers: 16-29 years: 12 points 30-49: 10 50-59: 9 60-69: 8 70-79: 7 80-89: 6 90-99: 5 100-109: 4 110+: 3 Most of you seemed to like the proposed bonuses, so they'll be as previously described, i.e.: +1 point for a unique pick +2 for a celeb who dies on the 13th of any month +3 for murder, suicide or accident (but not execution) +5 for a celeb who dies on their birthday or Xmas Day Joker: Take the total of all the above and double it. Might it be better if we did not use either the 16 or 18 year old minimums this next year but that of 17 (on the 1st of January) to remove the moral question being raised in this site? I would've said del Toro but I can't see him going right after Hardy & Bolden. Ford, Allingham, Rolt and Shriver maybe outside chance. Michael Foot, Mohammed Zahir Shah & Phil Taylor - no chance. Well according to the same source, that is the same lady who was a witness at the Lady Chatterley trial. It'd be more likely for a literary critic to do that than the Chief Clerk of Buck Pal. Oh, by the way, Dame Helen Gardner & Dame Helen Gardiner are two completely different people. I was watching the documentary about the Lady Chatterley Trial. Dame Helen Gardiner is still alive, and listed in the Independent newspaper Birthdays column, as seen here in 2002. and 2005. But Dame Helen Gardner was the woman at the trial of Lady Chatterley's lover. Mrs Gardiner will get an obit, if only in the Independent (much like Sir Edward Ford etc.) But essentially, with the new rules coming in, it ain't worth the 4 points, surely?
