Sir Creep 7,070 Posted September 14, 2015 I created this thread once before and it was moved to Survivors. Now maybe that was the original intent of that thread but if you look at it (Admins I'm talking to you) you'll see it's been hijacked completely for nefarious purposes unrelated to "being the last surviving member" of something. So let's try this once again. Mahlon Duckett, who died at age 92 on Sunday night (Sept 13), was the last surviving member of the Philadelphia Stars Negro League baseball team. As always, it's sad to loose these institutions personified. RIP SirC http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/phillies/20150714_Former_Philadelphia_Stars_Negro_League_player_Mahlon_Duckett_dies_at_92.html#GgoGWlJQBU1eKlQe.99
deadsox 894 Posted September 14, 2015 It's hard to be sure if anyone is "the last" of any category. For example, James Fennimore Cooper told us that Uncas was the last of the Mohicans but then they started a casino in Connecticut. Go figure.

DevonDeathTrip 2,358 Posted September 15, 2015 How about changing this thread to one about John Otway and Wild Willy Barrett? I'm sure SC wouldn't mind. Barrett seems like a bit of an eccentric....for his album Organic Bondage, he made the sleeves himself out of plywood.

Sir Creep 7,070 Posted January 21, 2017 The Last Canadian survivor of the Armenian genocide has died at 107. Knar Yemenidjian was 6 when family went into hiding in 1915, moving to Montreal in the early 1970s. Yemenidjian died Thursday, just weeks shy of her 108th birthday. Sir Creep 7,070 Posted September 14, 2019 Lawa Toyu, the last Atayal elder with a traditional facial tattoo, passed away early yesterday morning after her health deteriorated since being hospitalized in January with pneumonia. Doctors said that the cause of death was multiple organ failure. Despite Miaoli County records showing that Lawa Toyu was born in 1923, her fellow villagers said she delayed reporting her household registry information by five years. Atayal facial tattoos were recognized in 2016 by the Miaoli County Government as a cultural asset. The tattoos represent the purity of the tribe and are a mark of coming of age or bravery. They are also believed to allow the spirits of the deceased to cross the Rainbow Bridge to join their ancestors. Following Lawa Toyu’s passing, Lin Chi-mei (林智妹), a Sediq who lives in Hualien, is said to be the only Aborigine with a traditional facial tattoo in Taiwan.
