Which is odd, as folk were so grim about Ewing's health around the 2015 election I'd have given her 6 weeks then, not 6 years and counting!
arghton 6,731 Posted June 18, 2021 https://www.svt.se/kultur/tidigare-kulturministern-bengt-goransson-ar-dod Former Swedish minister and politician Bengt Göransson dead at 88. He was the Minister of Culture and Education 1982-1989 and only Minister of Education 1989-1991 after Bengt Göransson became the Minister for Schools. He was part of Olof Palme's cabinet. Palme was assasinated while walking home from a cinema on the 28th of February 1986. Lots of Palme ministers still alive, but I don't think there are ministers alive from before Palme's first cabinet.

Vaclav Klaus doesn't look great, but Zeman looks even worse. Possibly a bit drunk, but he's in a wheelchair and looks a bit disoriented and doesn't seem to be able to talk properly. There's also been some talk about Zeman being "unfit for office".

Do you know Is the system here similar to Holyrood parliament were a death of a sitting member doesn't lead to a by election but a replacement appointed from the party list? I may be misunderstanding and Holyrood only does that if a parliamentarian elected via the list passes away whilst in office?

I may be misunderstanding and Holyrood only does that if a parliamentarian elected via the list passes away whilst in office? I'm not sure. Looks to be completely different though. Gordon Dunne stood down a couple of weeks ago and the coverage says his son, Stephen Dunne, was "co-opted in" to replace him as the MLA for the constituency. Never known there to have been a by-election to the NI Assembly. Would appear to be that the winning party of that constituency from the most recent election just chooses a replacement. In Holyrood there are by-elections for the constituencies, auto-allocations from the party lists for the regions. I think Wales is the same? Someone on here will know better I'm sure.

arghton 6,731 Posted June 23, 2021 While doing a bit of research I found out that former Grenada Prime Minister Bernard Coard (b. 1945) recently lost his wife: https://thecaribbeancamera.com/phyllis-coard-member-of-grenada-17-dies-in-jamaica/ Phyllis and Bernard Coard were known for being some of the people who organized the coup against and killing of Prime Minister Maurice Bishop (1944-1983). Both Bishop and Coard were communists from the "New Jewel Movement", Bishop even named his son Vladimir Lenin. This Lenin died at age 16 after getting stabbed in a nightclub in Toronto in 1994. Also, Coard's successor, military strongman Hudson Austin (b. 1938) who ruled for a couple of days until the United States invasion of Grenada was in a house fire last year and is believed to be suffering from several medical issues. Soon to be Grenadead?
