Oh really? That's an interesting coincidence, the ages matched up. I doubt either of them would be on the list nowadays.

Sen. Tim Johnson had a cerebral aneurysm in mid December 2006 and everyone thought he was going to die. As it is it took him nearly a year to recover. If that happened to any US senator this December you can bet they’d be on next year’s list.

Ok, said I'd take a look at this and it's not a perfect list by any means but here are the surviving heads of state and government from the Cold War (12 March 1947 – 26 December 1991).

I've stuck to the main participants of the Cold War as defined on this Wiki page (i.e. the Eastern and Western Blocs), as opposed to spreading this too thinly and covering every single country who played a role in an event(s) of the period.

It seems like a long list, but it's really not when you consider that 95% of Cold War leaders are dead.

Romania, West Germany, Turkey, the Philippines and Iraq are the only countries with no survivors. The USA to be the next?

52 names remaining. How many more can Elizabeth II outlive?

Updated for the death of Kravchuk.

As promised, a list of WWII veterans from the British establishment. Much shorter than the U.S. one, but I can't promise it's complete as there is no one "go to" to get this info. Here goes:

*Queen Elizabeth II (b. 1926)

*Ben Ford (b. 1925) Labour
*Lord John Eden (b. 1925, also listed above) Conservative
*Lord Ted Graham (b. 1925, also listed above) Labour

Only 14 names altogether :(

Note: Ron Atkins (b. 1916) did not serve because of psoriasis

Telegraph death notice for Baroness Pamela Sharples (wiki) who has died aged 99.

Means that there are now no former female MPs or peers who are older than the Queen.

It also leaves the Queen as the last female establishment figure who served in WWII.

Sharples was a tough old cookie and I thought she may have seen 100. Drove lorries during WWII, still drinking champers and playing golf at 91. In her late 80s she took a swing at a cyclist who nearly ran her over. Aged 90 she survived pneumonia after being hospitalised for 6 weeks (including 3 days in intensive care). Quite the character. They don't make them like that anymore!

Just 10 WWII vets remaining from Parliament and the monarchy.

Turns out that the experts who did the report on the health of Lubomír Štrougal and Vratislav Vajnar were both connected with the communist regime and were likely biased. Seems like there's also newly found evidence against these two.

ttps://www.memoryandconscience.eu/2022/02/02/german-investigation-into-former-communist-czechoslovak-officials-continues/

New reports on Lubomir Strougal's and Vratislav Vajnar's conditions ordered to be completed by the end of March.

https://ct24.ceskatelevize.cz/domaci/3492628-policie-stiha-komunistickeho-exministra-kincla-kvuli-strelbe-pohranicniku

Latest on this:

The report is made by the Bohnice Psychiatric Hospital, which was due to be submitted by March. "Expert opinions have not yet been prepared. The deadline for the end of the investigation has been postponed to June 5, 2022, "said Aleš Cimbala, a spokesman for the council, two weeks ago.

Along with 97-year-old former Prime Minister of Czechoslovakia Lubomir Strougal and 91-year-old former Interior Minister Vratislav Vajnar also Jan Fojtík, 94-year-old former parliament member and "leading party ideologist" will be examined.

I guess it'll be postponed again a few times until Strougal dies.
