Two retirements from the House of Lords today:

Lord Quentin Davies (wiki), 79, Conservative (then defected to Labour) MP (1987–2010), served as a minister under Gordon Brown
Lord Doug Hoyle (wiki), 93, Labour MP (1974–1997) and father of Commons Speaker Lindsay Hoyle

One more due on Thursday:

Lord Hylton (wiki), 91, Crossbench hereditary peer, longest serving crossbencher, sat in Parl since 1968

Just two years ago I frequently saw Hylton downing pints in the Lord Riverside Bar, but he looked pretty frail. I know nothing of the other two, but I think these could be 3 names worth watching.

Two more retirements from the House of Lords:

Lord Selkirk (wiki, better known as James Douglas-Hamilton), 80, Scottish Conservative MSP (1999–2007), minister under Thatcher, Minister of State for Scotland under John Major
Lord Watson of Richmond (wiki), 82, Liberal Democrat, broadcaster and one-time President of the Liberal Party <-- looks like proper roast gammon

Not quite sure what's caused such a large amount of retirements, but all these men are above life expectancy so worth watching.

If Mitch McConnell survives 2023, he gets my vote for 2024.

As an American, I sincerely hope he doesn't receive any more votes.

Don't worry, he will not be re-elected in 2026.

Controversial Thai politician Chuwit Kamolvisit has stage 3 liver cancer and has been given 8 months to live. Although he seems confident in speeding up that process...

Quote

“The doctors told me to stop drinking and smoking, so I asked them if I would be free of cancer if I did. They said no. So, I told them not to try to stop me from doing them. I continue doing them because I am happy to,” Chuwit said.

To be fair, a lot of these hospitalisations are "check-ups". The Indian subcontinent likes to overdramatize these events. Once you reach a certain age, you're always at the doctor for something.

Between her and Buddadeb, it's beginning to sound like a bad joke…

I wouldn't be surprised if these coffin-teasers all die around the same period though !

Former Labour MP for St Helens South (1983-2001) Gerry Bermingham reportedly died earlier this month: https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/tributes-legendary-lawyer-former-mp-27486293

Cunt opposed any equalisation of the age of consent for gay people to that for heterosexuals. Thus giving the lie that Labour are on that side of the minority line.
