TheKeysOfMarinus 390 Posted February 16 The exact words of the court filing are “major neurocognitive disorder (such as dementia)”. That sounds like it’s referring to the pre-existing mental issues he has had for decades that most fans are aware of. Even if he does have dementia, it seems quite low for news outlets to take the words “(such as dementia)” and report a diagnosis.
jd24fan 78 Posted February 16 I saw Brian at a casino in Canada in 2018, and there were times where Brian was just "there". His singing voice was less than half of what it was in the '60s, and he wasn't really outgoing with the audience, but he did say "Merry Christmas" after they played "Little Saint Nick". On the other hand, his backing band was fantastic, and some of the musicians were outstanding. He was a bit frail, as his assistant had to help him to his piano. I thought at the time, that it was related to his mental problems in the 70's and not dementia. Some of the audience left early as they thought he was being exploited. To be fair, I'd rather see Brian perform any day than see Mike Love's glorified tribute band that tours as the Beach Boys.

The Rolling Stone article says the filing includes a report he's taking donepezil, a type of Alzheimer's medication, so I would assume it's pretty clear even if it's not explicitly spelled out. It’s hard to understand why the 2012 line-up could not continue even with a reduced backing band. Mike Love was always more interested in a fast buck. Tragically, Jeff Foskett passed away after a battle with a rare cancer. He was the main force who got Brian back on track, especially the fantastic Pet Sounds tour. It was so sad that he finally sold out to Mike Love. Al Jardine seems to be Brian’s main ally these days.
tracy 2,392 Posted February 16 We appreciate the overwhelming outpouring of love and support for Brian. While Brian is diagnosed with early stages of dementia and he mourns the loss of his beloved wife Melinda, he is physically healthy and leads a full life and is currently working on projects. As his co-conservators, we will ensure that all of Brian’s daily living needs are satisfied and he continues to lead an active life. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/music-news/brian-wilson-conservatorship-petition-1235827805/

maryportfuncity 10,641 Posted April 26 Plenty of pictures appearing on the social media feed - I'm thinking the new trainers (usually good for about 500 miles) are maybe a touch over-ambitious given the mobility of the two older ones in the photo
tracy 2,392 Posted May 8 Joe Thomas, who produced the Beach Boys albums Stars and Strips Vol. 1 and That's Why God Made the Radio, and Brian's solo albums Imagination and No Pier Pressure, dead at 65. Infamously sued by Brian in the late 1990s, but they made up a decade or so later.

The big takeaway from the article is as follows: Quote Cipriano [Wilson's lawyer]’s report to the court said he visited Wilson at his “impeccably well maintained residence in Beverly Hills,” where he lives with two daughters and a long-term live-in caregiver. Wilson can move around with help from a walker and the caregiver, Cipriano said, and he has a good sense of who he is, where he is, and when it is, but could not name his children beyond the two that live with him.

To be fair, he might have it more together than he did around 1973, but it's going slowly downhill from here.
