Bibliogryphon 9,582 Posted October 15, 2017 Some good names on there but some don't feel deathlisty. I think Baroness Trumpington deserves a place just for the interview she gave on Radio 4 when asked "Why are you retiring?" She replied "Because I'm so bloody old" Next Dunn

gcreptile 10,972 Posted October 17, 2017 Hmm.... the Undroppables: 1. Kirk Douglas (too big, too old) 2. Prince Philpp (too big, too retired) 3. Stan Lee (judging by little tidbits) 4. Bob Dole (as mentioned in his thread) 5. Leah Bracknell (too ill) 6. Gord Downie (too ill) 7. Robert Mugabe (getting there) 8. King Michael (too ill) 9. George Bush Sr. (too big, too ill) 10. David Prowse (wait and see) 11. Pope Benedict (as above) 12. Desmond Tutu (my personal opinion) 13. Gay Byrne (we have to if the new medication works) 14. Valerie Harper (we have to see if the new medication works) 15. Perhaps Billy Graham? (too invested in him) 16. Perhaps Olivia De Havilland? (too invested in her)
Joey Russ 7,227 Posted October 17, 2017 I would assume Vera Lynn and Fats Domino are undroppable as well due to the amount of appearances, their level of fame, and, at least in the case of Vera Lynn, age...

Kirk, Lynn, Rev Billy, Carrington, Prince Philip, Norden, Stan Lee, Olivia, Wouk, Dole, Bracknell, Carter, Downie, Leslie, Mugabe, JP de Ceullar, Michael, Stiles, QEII, Bush Sr, Benny, Domino, Akihito, Harper. Which is 24. Either too ill, or too big and ill, or too invested in them, or part of the furniture. Or Jimmy Carter, and Presidents only leave one way... Bit of a log jam at the top! I think Carrington can be safely dropped and picked up again later. De Cuellar would't even really count as a miss if he died... I mean, nobody would "really" care. QE II was a "precautionary measure" for this year. But she's ok it seems. I thought about Wouk. Norden is too boring for me as a non-Brit, same for Stiles (though a good pick, he's not unique enough as a member of the Club of 66) and Phillips. Fats Domino is nice too have. They probably won't drop him because they missed Chuck Berry. Akihito is going to last 2-3 years, I guess.
Joey Russ 7,227 Posted October 17, 2017 Phillips has his fair share of health issues, so I would honestly keep him next year. That, and there’s nothing wrong with some British culture that I may not recognize immediately. That’s one of the better part for the deathlist imo.

JPdC has been on the last 4 lists, someone likes him. Domino's been on 9.
Death Impends 7,975 Posted October 17, 2017 Hm, I would definitely keep till they die (note I, so not including ones like old UN guy you know will stay regardless...): The 100 club (has the DeathList ever dropped a centenarian? bar the nonentity fluke that was Ruby Muhammad...): 1. Kirk 2. Vera 3. Olivia 4. Wouk Not 100 but close enough: 5. Rev Billy 6. Lord Carrington Major public figures who are old or ill enough: 7. Phil the Greek 8. Carter 9. RobertMugabe 10. Her Majesty 11. Bush 41 12. Benny 16 13. Tutu Mid-90s folk who seem on the decline enough to warrant sticking with: 14. Stan the Man 15. Dole 16. Phillips Cancer folk: 17. Bracknell 18. Downie 19. Mihai 20. Rhoda (even if the new medication sees some success, IMO the fact that the first one stopped working to begin with is enough to move her from "on-and-off pick" to "undroppable") A DL tradition more interesting than Javier: 21. Life Is Beautiful 716 Posted October 17, 2017 Jimmy Carter should also stay until the end, it would be a shame to get Nixon, Reagan and Ford and then miss him. He's 93 and near the peak of the US president's age, let's not forget that. Also, de Cuellar should stay as well for being so universally acclaimed.

Sean 6,327 Posted October 17, 2017 The toughest drops should we not break the record are Tutu and Gall.QE2 is so healthy that missing her although would be a huge miss could be defendable.

Gooseberry Crumble 5,342 Posted October 22, 2017 I've got a feeling there will be a few more women on next year's list. Perhaps around 15? Some possibilities include Doris Day Loretta Lynn Mary Wilson (widow of Harold Wilson) Barbara Bush Olivia Newton John Linda Nolan Barbara Walters Joan Plowright Diana Athill Della Reese Clarissa Eden
