gcreptile 10,964 Posted February 25, 2020 One theory is that the star emitted a giant gas cloud into our direction. (How rude!)

One shot Paddy 1,205 Posted July 20, 2020 Took OSP JR out last night to look for Comet NEOWISE as it was the first clear night in ages. We managed to see it after 11.30 at about 5 o'clock from the big dipper/plough half way between it and the horizon. Around midnight I could see it out of the corner of my eye as a bright smudgy line. We got a great view of Juipter and it's Galilean moons, Saturns rings and a very bright pass of the ISS! Try getting a 7 yearold to sleep after all that!!!

Cat O'Falk 3,290 Posted December 20, 2020 There is a great conjunction on the 21st December when Jupiter and Saturn appear at their closest since the year 1623. The blue circle in the picture below represents the diameter of a full moon. https://www.space.com/great-conjunction-jupiter-saturn-2020-fun-facts https://www.space.com/jupiter-saturn-great-conjunction-2020 https://stellarium-web.org/

Pretty much from Inverness down to Glasgow if you look one hour after sunset you can see them very low in the SSW sky. Altitude eight degrees. Azimuth 210 degrees. They are visible to the naked eye.

Sir Creep 7,070 Posted December 21, 2020 You got one job to do tomorrow at dusk** Scotland. Let’s see if you can avoid fahkin it up. (We thought we saw the “bright light” today but it was just EasyJet coming in from Gatwick.) Remember that wee comet last July, visible to the naked eye for over a week? Yeah that one. Let’s try to avoid the same back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back bullshit skies you provided upon my last visit. App says it ain’t-a-lookin good. Sir Creep 7,070 Posted December 22, 2020 Miss Boudicca and Sir Cunto went to the best unencumbered SW horizon they could find - the Tarbat Ness Lighthouse. Nothing in the way but the North Sea/Moray Firth. Damn clouds. But Boudicca used gypsy magic and the clouds parted, giving the DL power couple about one full minute of Conjunctive glory. Then *poof* it was gone. SCunto
