You forgot a fucking wildcard by the way and have roughly 55 minutes to give me one otherwise it goes to Angela Lansbury by default, to be honest I'd be tempted just to not give you one out of your petulance at this point. By the way tax deadline is 31st January by the way in case you've forgotten that as well, and your heads screwed to your neck and glasses are resting on your nose if your looking for those things as well, I bet your house keys have got your address written on them not in case you lose them just in case you forget where you fucking live. Thank god your picks are actually bloody famous....... Thank you for your entry and good luck Anyone else still got teams to submit??? 1
Deathray 2,940 Posted January 1, 2020 Right then - personal New Year festivies weren't all they're cracked up to be.... which is great news for Hares Competitors. An impressive 43 teams - same as last year - lost a few gained a few. Welcome or welcome back, And as new years eve fireworks litter the UK landscape and auld lang syne is belted out we are ready to provide another year I've added everyone but the lazy bastards to the masterlist spreadsheet, experimenting with holding all picks as a spreadsheet with competitors next to them rather than a post due to excessive length or the old spreadsheet I used for personally purposes that required each pick to be entered points tallies in each team, this one is pick - team. Once I've added the latecomers in tomorrow that'll be available to check and you'll see what I mean. When it's publishe head over here to check it’s accurate at this is where we’ll be awarding points from from now on (it’s easier). once I've taken care of that I'll finish compiling the Hares scoreboard for last year - there's still a week for late obits though, so i'm not hurrying it as I can't be arsed re-doing it when we discover someone died yesterday (you can follow progress on this front in last years thread - I'm doing it inthe most.)..... Given the above is all an incredibly boring, technical thing few people are going to care about on to the good stuff.... Firstly it’s time to dish out the new You’ve Got to Be Fucking Kidding Award - The wanker who shall remain nameless who submitted an 18-year old car crash victim as a road safety campaigner. I've seen it all now. The full list of annual rejections is below, I’ve decided not to name the culprits - they can bring themselves forward below for ridicule (I’ll fess up to Marianne Nolad, I mean one of them did sing for her… but still FFBI). The dead one died after submission, for the first time I can remember no-one who died in the 1980s or 1990s was submitted, improvements. Rejected Picks (Full List) Pick Rejected: Mariane Nolad dying westlife fan Creative description justifying them: Westlife superfan FFBI Gemma Sissons cancer ridden 'gym addict; Creative description justifying them: bodybuilder and gym addict FFBI Vishwesha Teertha Indian Guru Actually famous (In players defense died after they submitted their team) Dead Ky73 W3@r car crash victim Creative description justifying them: road safety campaigner FFBI And the Who the Fuck Are They? Award Impressively Sir Creep hasn’t won this….. Bob Joers - a gcreptile pick who somehow squeezed through the FFBI filter. Bob is a high school sports director whose ‘claim to fame’ is as the high school sports director of Middleton High School is claim to fame is an article about a softball coach who worked at his school and was essentially sacled - that referenced him for a comment about how the softball coach was a great guy and he was sad to lose him. Gcreptile will be hoping the Middleton Times that provided the above qualifying article will also provide an obit….. Sir Creep however does get second place for minor poker player Aaron ‘Ace’ Corson’s, a relatively unsuccessful poker player whose public results sheets from prelimary tournaments in the Heartland Poker Tour prior to his cancer diagnosis serve as his ‘claim to fame’ - the Poker News website will probably cover his death - so he’s fine for our purposes…… There’s also a littanny of famous peoples mothers in hospital, session musicians who’ve contracted cancer, Eastern Counties League football teams (that;s level 9 for those not familiar with non league), the minority of players who treat the non-English obit requirement as an invitation to submit a team full of people famous in their own country they can't play anywhere else - (honestly these are the greatest teams to receive, so thanks to gcreptile and Book for the annual education) who’ve got cancer and all the other usual absolute fucking nobodies who pull over the FFBI line by the skin of their teeth.…... Thankfully, despite an obvious increase of borderlines (or maybe I’m just being more thorough this year), the torrent of Who the Fuck Are They Picks that I was worried about in including this award hasn’t materialised - so the tradition may continue (see below, it’s not up to me). And finally - you may have noticed a certain casual and almost demob happy vibe in the nature in which team checks and general Hares work has been conducted over the past few days - even more so than the usual casual approach. There’s a reason for that - 6 years after the first edition of the Hares Death Pool kicked off into life in January 2014 - many things have changed away from the forums and many things have changed on them. I’m no longer a spotty teenager with stupid amounts of free time (that lets be honest was never really put into this whole business anyway, so you can imagine how useless I’d be as a host without that free time), and I find far less to be enjoyed in the whole deadpool hosting process (that’s not to say I haven’t enjoyed hosting it I have. But things they change….). It’s time for one more thing to change - I will be retiring from hosting duties of this pool once YoungWillz is ready to take over the reins on a permanent basis - after his excellent job as stand-in host when I fucked off a few years ago and in appreciation that you’ll all press gang him into it as soon as you read this anyway. I’ll still be around on the forums. I feel more comfortable ditching the hosting duties knowing they’ll be in good - dare I say better - hands. The exact switchover date is in YW's hands up to the limit that I will not be google local league footballers with cancer for their teams results next NYE..... News that will no doubt be greeted with loud sighs of relief by competitors. Enjoy the more frequent scoreboard updates when they come. To be clear this isn’t a ‘i’m taking a bit of time off hosting it.’ - It’s a permanent handover. I've enjoyed learning about so many obscure celebrities when I've been running, but it's time to move on. An exact handover date hasn’t been set, but the transition will be a smooth, managed process rather than the usual ‘oh fuck, he’s disappeared, YW you’re up’ affair.

Deathray 2,940 Posted January 1, 2020 So the died very late in Decembers are starting to crop up. The aforementioned poker player Aaron Corson died 30 Dec 2019 - I missed that one in the mad rush for entries. Brings Henri Richard - a Canadian hockey player off Sir Creeps sub bench. Probably a lucky escape for SC as so far not even a local obit has shown up for our minor poker player.
Deathray 2,940 Posted January 1, 2020 And re that spreadsheet - it's seems people have thankfully (from a host perspective) combined around a relatively smaller number of dead cetrs. Including subs there was a potential 1290 names that could be entered if everyone had a unique pick (and if this had happened I think I'd have concurrently had some form of mental breakdown, so this justifies not award bonuses for unique picks in my head....). I currently have 499 names on my spreadsheet. Re Spreadsheet - feel free to start the annual process of telling me that Actually Famous is Random Nobody of the Same Name or I've fucked up the data entry on your team (there will be errors)..... Deathray 2,940 Posted January 1, 2020 First day of 2019 is also the day of the first hit.... David Stern was a former NBA commissioner born in New York on September 22, 1942. He suffered a brain haemmorhage on December 12th last year which ultimately led to his passing earlier today. He spent thirty years as an NBA Commissioner. He ended up as commissioner having been drawn into the world of basketball through working for the company representing the league in the late 60s and early 70s. He's also been credit with turning the league into a much more renowned international league, among much more. A member of the FIBA Hall of Fame despite not being a basketball. That's not to say his career was without it's lows, a few dodgy takeovers and attitude of financial rigging and an infamous radio interview. where Stern asked the host (who'd question him on rigging) if he'd stopped beating his wife. (Obituary: The Guardian (US) ) Scoreboard Wormfarmer 0 points (1 hit) Everybody else 0 points. Elsewhere jazz singer Ed Battle will no long be warming Death Impends substitute bench as its revealed he died on December 26 2019, he wasn't picked for any 2019 teams though so no changes on the provisional leaderboard. That's the second of Death Impends original team to die following Vishwesha Teertha Swami....who passed away on the 29th December. At this rate Death Impend should be collecting the 500 point bonus by around the end of March

msc 18,397 Posted January 2, 2020 Hello Deathray. Unfortunately TV actress Elizabeth Sellars died on 30th December 2019, with the Telegraph putting up a Death notice (not even an obit) late on 1st January. As this is now the 2nd, I don't know if Eva Marie moves into the team as a sub or not, I leave that to your host judgement.

Yep - automatic promotion for Eva Marie Saint. - The 1st January/first hit cut off is for people who couldn't be bothered providing enough substitutes..... Team sheets updated.
Deathray 2,940 Posted January 2, 2020 The rules have been given a face-lift No major changes in implementation and no changes to scoring rules (bolded the ones that are), many changes in wording..... Essentially all in the name of making things easier for my successor (currently lined up as YW but as we're talking months away not fully confirmed until it's confirmed) and codified some of the changes gradually introduced anyway. Also in the name of making it easier to read and reference. The old leniency clauses are abolished Sectioning the rules out for ease of reference. The 24 hour pick replacement leeway is restricted to those who actually provided 5 subs..... With the now longstanding 2359 deadline replacing the old 1600 we have moved to zero tolerance on late entries (this has been done in practice since 2017/2018 so nothing new) The dedicated obit sites like legacy, obits.tjz.net or wherever Wallinga got an obit don't count, similarly for death notice pages (unless the celebrity sections of these sites) (again no change in implementation, just wording) Teams submitted after midday on NYEs are subjected to a much less detailed clarification procedure...... Many calls to arms to clarify your own picks claims to fames. Codifying the 7 day obit leniency..... Abolishing Rule 7........ (the changes permission) get it right first time you morons....
