Comments on his health and recovery:

To me this is a miracle, I didn’t expect to live. I expected to die because I am old and also I am suffering from serious diseases affecting...first my heart, when the heart is weak, it affects the lung and when the lung is weak, it affects the kidney and so on.

But somehow or rather the doctors turn me around and eventually I was discharged and am quite well, not one hundred per cent, but enough for me to continue with the little work I have to do

He didn't directly comment on the next round of the DL Cup but  I can see where he's going with that statement

Doesn’t help that the Malaysian media keep killing him off in tweets then deleting them.

Useless fact about Mahathir Mohamad – he is one of just 4 living people who attended Lady Thatcher’s funeral who were born before her.

The other three are Baroness Jill Knight, Henry Kissinger and Lord Henry Plumb.

The two Brits gone in a short time. Now only Mahathir and Kissinger left, two hardline immortals.

Despite the heart issues he's well enough to go on a long twitter rant about how his country is "ruined":

Here's a new picture:

Hospitalised with COVID.

But don't get too excited: he is fully vaxxed (although with Sinovac) and shows only very mild symptoms. On top of that, COVID is not the illness it used to be.

Not a goner.

Having a South East Asian living to this age is ridiculous. I'm starting to wonder if that is his real age.

He’s been quite active politically since the 1940s. If he’s not the age he claims to be it’s only by a year or two

It's worth mentioning, his wife is 96. I'd be struggling to think of any married pair still alive at age 96+ in SE Asia, never mind such a high profile one. I guess they will go very soon after each other, and she could also get a QO.

Well there are a few living South East Asian politicians 95+, although most seem quite minor names. Excluding Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar (Vietnam has around 9 less famous ones, Laos and Myanmar as far as I know both have only one but both these more famous than nearly all the Vietnamese ones) there's Juan Ponce Enrile and Subroto who seem quite large names, Malaysia has three seemingly small names in addition to Mahathir (Lim Kean Chye is 102, Abdullah CD and Devaki Krishnan both 99) and Singapore has Richard Hu, 95. There's also a large amount of younger nonagenarians.

"I don’t see myself being active in politics until I’m 100 years old," he said. "The most important thing is to transfer my experience to the younger leaders of the party."

I am kind of resigned to ignore the Generation Game for now, because I foolishly picked Mahathir Mohamed there because he had a stretch if ill health in 2015 or something. Unfortunately, he's an immortal.

In an embarrassing result, the little bigot has lost his seat in parliament, coming fourth out of five candidates!

His first election loss in 53 years. He should have retired after his second premiership.

Perhaps the voters were unconvinced that he would be able to serve his full term, which would take him up to the age of 102.

Maybe they were just referring to his career

Unlike other famous 97-year olds, he can pass off as decades younger. He's proof that heart problems don't necessarily accelerate aging

(that said, heart problems can still kill otherwise robust people in an instant. Like Richard Nixon, who was 81 but still in fine health until his stroke). Mahathir reminds me a lot of Richard Nixon at this point...
