Giorgio Napolitano

Recommended Posts

Forlani, Berlusconi and Napolitano all gone within the same year.

Lamberto Dini (b. Mar 1931), PM (1995–1996) and Nicola Mancino (b. Oct 1931), Acting President (1999) are the next obvious choices.

NOT DEAD

2023 is the last possibility for Napolitano to join the DL. Keep it in mind.

I said that.

3 years ago I went on a date with an Italian and he was impressed that I had prior knowledge on Berlusconi and Napolitano. Of course I left out that I’m only aware of them because of this site.

Now for the first time in the history of Italian Republic, incumbent President Sergio Mattarella is the only living president.

The record of the most living presidents at the same time is four :

During Sandro Pertini’s term, from 9 July to 17 October 1978 : Pertini himself, Giovanni Cronchi, Giuseppe Saragat, and  Giovanni Leone. This ended with Cronchi’s death.

During Napolitano’s first term,  from 15 May 2006 to 17 August 2010: Napolitano himself, Francesco Cossiga, Oscar Scalfaro and Carlo Ciampi. This ended with Cossiga’s death.

That flavour of ice cream should now be retired out of respect.

No BBC Obit? Absolutely crazy, especially since there were BBC articles about him all the time when he was President. He was Italy’s longest serving President!
