gcreptile 10,997 Posted July 11, 2021 Congrats, WeeJum! I'm glad, Italy won. For me, they had it from the beginning. England still did very well, very clever coaching by Southgate. Reminds me of the Germany of 1986/1990. Very uninspired and boring, but efficient. Results could be even better in 1/3 years. I didn't watch the game vs Ukraine though. I believe it gave them the momentum to defeat Denmark. Otherwise there would have been an Italy - Denmark final.

YoungWillz 21,090 Posted July 11, 2021 Soufgate taught them everything he knows. How to have a disastrous penalty shoot out. At Wembley, even. Ah well, bad luck. It's probably of little comfort that there's cheering and singing on the streets where I live. Must be the Italian ice cream place opened late....
TQR 14,415 Posted July 11, 2021 Southgate and his England squad making us proud at a time where we’ve not much to be proud of. Love them all. Especially Rashford, Sancho and Saka, who must be hurting at the moment, and Mason Mount, who has a terrific arse.

ladyfiona 2,617 Posted July 11, 2021 In my opinion the players who literally were only on for less than 5 minutes should not have taken penalties. They were not warmed up enough and Saka is only 19. Too much pressure on the lad.

the_engineer 1,415 Posted July 11, 2021 Southgate if I can see you need to make a sub how could you not? Grealish , rashford should've been on around 60 mins. Kalvin Phillips was dead on his feet and yet he takes off rice our best midfielder.

time 8,646 Posted July 12, 2021 Well done Wee Jum. as for the tournament itself, England did better than I expected (which was to get knocked out in the first knockout game); some players I’d previously disparaged changed my opinion of them; Saka has lived up to expectations, but there’s no way he should have been put in that position Re the shootout (nor should Rashford or Sancho). Still not convinced by Southgates coaching, but on a different day who knows. And (as if we didn’t already know) our government are a bunch of hypocrites.
msc 18,496 Posted July 12, 2021 Well done Wee Jum. I agree with time, England did far better than I expected, a lot of their players did well, the poor lad should never have had to take such a crucial penalty last night (you could see the fear in his eyes), and the government are a bunch of fuckwits. 1
Toast 16,171 Posted July 12, 2021 Once again all the talk is of "missed" penalties. I wish the world would get this right. A missed penalty is one that goes wide, over the bar, or hits the post. A penalty that is saved by the goalkeeper is NOT a "missed" penalty. It is saved, and calling it a miss is taking credit away from the keeper.
