Recommended Posts

With alot of well known public figures either on the ground or pledging to join the fight it's only a matter of time before one of them is killed.

Not against this thread by any means but maybe you should’ve waited for there to actually be a single notable victim first? Otherwise this is all ideas and possibilities orientated…

Just list every male Ukrainian between 18-60 why don't you. For shits and giggles I could put Bald and Bankrupt here because he's still in Keiv as of yesterday on his Instagram.

Locked, for now. If notable Ukrainians start dying en masse, then maybe it can be reopened, but otherwise this can all be discussed in the Ukraine Crisis/Zelenskyy threads.

Okay, now that we're starting to see more notable deaths, good enough for me to reopen.

I would have preferred not to see this thread reopened tbh…

So would I.

It reads like the rest of the people don't matter.

Not DL relevant, I should note, and it's a guy who seems to have been a career Russian soldier to have gotten to be Major General so I'm not all that upset, but here we go. Deputy commander of the 41st Combined Arms Army Andrey Sukhovetsky who has experience in several of Russia's "we swear we're not doing anything bad it's the West that's bad" wars.

Honestly not sure where else to put this and since this is relevant...

In the Ukraine Crisis thread I posted a video of Holocaust survivors cursing Putin while hiding in bunkers all over again. Here's a video with English subtitles, and I will warn that it's extremely tough to watch:

Of the over 2500 people named Righteous Among the Nations from Ukraine, 17 are still living in the country, several in Kyiv:

https://www.jpost.com/international/article-698462

Holocaust memorial charity From the Depths notes that they have lost contact with at least one of them:

https://www.facebook.com/ftdepths/videos/456481162929767

From the Depths founder Jonny Daniels, a British-Israeli citizen, is in Ukraine in hopes of getting to them. I suspect that (and this may sound callous, but I'm being anything but) at least a few of them won't make it. The oldest of these individuals is Nina Bogrod, who is currently 97 and in Kyiv.

I don't have a list of names for them, and it doesn't seem like any of them were "notable" enough in their post war lives to have individual Wikipedia pages. But should I be proven right and some do die as a result of the invasion, I fully expect that they'll be given significant posthumous attention by the press.

Stakhovsky is in Kyiv right now.

Another name to add is former NHLer Dmitri Khristich. Says he hasn't taken up arms yet and is helping in other ways while his wife drives an ambulance:

2004 eurovision winner Ruslana is in Ukraine according to an Aftonbladet interview:

She does not want to think about her own safety.

Eurovision winner Ruslana describes herself as "one of the leaders of the patriotic movement" - and never intends to leave Ukraine.

- I've stayed here. We are soldiers. I'm not an artist anymore, now I'm a soldier in war. Who fights for peace, she says.

More information about him:

Career soldier, but expect names like these to be the primary additions to this thread for a bit, tbh. And expect people the English media would have gone "who?" about 2 weeks ago to get QOs soon enough - wouldn't be surprised if he got one over the next day, tbh, especially depending on how much information comes out of Russia/Ukraine in the same period.

Rumors floating around that Denis Kireev, one of the negotiators for Ukraine during the first round of talks, was detained by the Ukrainian security service as a traitor and has been killed. Apparently, there are pictures of his body floating around on Telegram, so he's likely dead, just a question of whether he was a traitor or not.

This promises to get MUCH uglier if the reports are true.

EDIT: Ukraine Pravda confirms:

Gear up for things to get worse.

Also on Twitter, a photo of a downed Russian pilot who is believed to have previously bombed Syria has been released.

Sergio stakhovsky is now back in Ukraine and preparing for the frontlines.

Wonder if any professional tennis players have died in combat during a war? I'm sure they'll be someone somewhere.

I am keeping track of Ukraine Reddit if anyone wants news about people. Don't check Russia reddit. It's now been suspended for spreading misinformation.

VDV figures are falling like dominoes, at this point I'm only going to update re: them if they're significant enough to have an English Wiki page. With how badly the VDV is doing, one wonders if it will even exist after this, at least as a branch of the armed forces.
