I think Rishi Sunak cant decide whether he wants to be a reasonable BoJo alternative or a Trump style "the more I piss them off, the more you like me" kind of conservative. Truss seems like the latter to me and so she'll ride on that ticket to the end. Sunak will sink. Mordaunt vs. Truss... I dont know, my money is on the latter.

The real scandal is that the next Prime Minister is being decided by a few thousand people who are not representative of the country as a whole.

My hope now is that Truss wins and then finds herself so hopelessly out of her depth that she calls a General Election.

The Sky debate has been pulled because Sunak and Truss decided they don’t fancy it. Well, that’s what’s claimed, however it transpires that Tory HQ as a whole have decided it was a bad idea.
 

Initially the debates were to be televised so the public could better get to know the candidates. Now the third one isn’t happening for fear of the public getting to know the candidates any more.

Yes, I'm getting a little tired of "I've served in the army" featuring in literally every answer he gives. Still the most reasonable of the 5 though. Mordaunt for me best of the rest, you've only got to see how hard the Daily Fail are going after her to see she's clearly more palatable than the rest. But her star is on the wane under more scrutiny. Safe to say whoever wins, the rest are going to hate. The ERG are in Civil War over Truss v Badenoch.

Almost certainly Truss vs Sunak.A fair few votes will go from Tugendhat to Mourdaunt  but not exclusively can see them spreading out in all directions but mainly Mourdaunt will be the beneficiary.Badenoch almost certain to get knocked out next round but with a still sizeable number the majority of which will almost certainly go to Truss knocking mourdaunt off the ticket.

Interesting that Badenoch picked up more from Braverman's exit than Truss. Mordaunt's lost ground, which is dangerous for her. Looks like MPs have decided Rishi is the safe bet to get behind. And seems Truss will end up in the run off purely by accident, unless the Badenoch gang can convince a few Truss supporters to switch sides since it's close. They only need a swing of 7 to knock Truss out instead, assuming the Tugendhat supporters go to Sunak and Mordaunt instead. Getting rid of Truss is the only hope for Penny I think: Truss's votes won't all go to Badenoch, most of Badenoch's will go to Truss I suspect.

I can't see Badenoch voters going over to Mourdaunt in a meaningful number.

 

If it is Truss vs Sunak he might outshine her in the campaign as she is as wooden as they come and could remind Tory voters of Theresa May which is not an unfair comparison.

Yeah, but...her Thatcher reincarnation attempts are designed to appeal directly to the 160,000 party members who vote after this week. Overwhelmingly white, averaging just over 70 years old and many of them convinced the UK never had better days than a decade of Maggie. Throw in some unspoken closet racism and the likely nastiness of the campaigns and Truss might just shade it.

 

Personally, I'd say her weak point is thinking on her feet and responding to difficult questions, meaning she could spend two years being shredded at PMQs by a good lawyer like Starmer, especially if she presides over prolonged inflation, workplace unrest and a backlog of Brexit-created problems.
