Question from a person who doesn't know the songs, Slade had a 5 songs there but there was only one left, are the songs really that bad?

Why didn't people like him?

Slade are a very popular British band. They aren't liked by 2 or 3 people who play this game. That is all.

Also having more than one song in the competition is a disadvantage because fans' votes may be spread among all of them, this diluting the support.

Yes, that's exactly how it is! The songs were kicked out and thus killed by theoldlady (Mama, weer all crazee now & Take me back ´ome), En Passant (Skweeze me, pleeze me) and Death Impends (Merry X-mas everybody).

Slade are very much of their time and were very popular but their songs do not have the staying power or classic status that some of the other songs that reached No.1 have.

Westlife had a lot of No.1's in the 90s but I hardly ever hear them played now

The exception is possible Merry X-Mas Everybody but that is not as good as I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday

You know what? I never really noticed there were two different ones. I just thought A was a misnaming of B as I skimmed over it.

Anyway, I'm now joining book and Grim oup North in downvoting every Slade song ever, nobody should be allowed to inflict two farking xmas songs on an unsuspecting public.

Trying to get a lifetime pension from one awful xmas song is bad enough, two is downright criminal.

That reminds me, it's only 3 weeks or so to Whamaggedon 2022 edition :D

Actually now you mention it, I bloody knew that. Duh.

I blame the fact I stick my fingers in my ears and go 'la la la' when any xmas song comes on.

I avoid Supermarkets completely for 6 weeks if I don't have some sort of earphones about my person, starting in a week or two xD

The other song is Roy Wood, not Slade.

Though, Noddy Holder didn't like Merry Xmas either. Thought it was cheesy rubbish. Until, as he later said, he saw his first royalty checks from the sales, and then he decided it was amazing! :D

(I know Biblio ninja'd me by a whole ten minutes but I was adding that bit about the Slade royalties and I'm sticking to it!)

The problem is that newer songs never seem to get a look-in.  I'm sure we could compile a refreshingly different Christmas album.

Being number one at Christmas does not make it a "Christmas song" . I don't mean novelty shit.   Mercifully I rarely hear Mr Blobby or Bob the Builder in the shops.
