Picked Barkan because I missed out on the Ice Bucket chap and Barkan reached the same period of time with ALS this year.

I picked him because I cannot seem to quit my addiction to AMD/MND sufferers, even when there are more obvious terminal cancer folk to pick.

Sneaks me back into the top 10. Could have been better though, had I cocked up my DDP entry a little differently than I actually did. I originally put all my picks into the spreadsheet and selected Rob Burrow who was second on my list as the Joker (see what I mean!,. I then put them in alphabetical order, but forgot to change the Joker, which then became Ady Barkan. But  the rules state that the Joker is the first one on the spreadsheet (which I also forgot - I was in a rush and quite drunk) and that was Adrian Sutton.

So my Joker was intended to be Rob Burrow, was submitted as Ady Barkan, and ended up being Adrian Sutton . I might actually be good at this game if I started taking it seriously!.

I think for Next Years DDP any deaths on the 29th February should get a bonus or even double points.

At this rate we will reach the record by mid November.

Alright, I shouldn't delay it any longer...

I will be leaving the DDP committee after this year's competition.

It's been four intensive, record-breaking years and the time for turnover has come.

I have already said as much earlier this year, and received some interest in the position.

If you can imagine yourself being part of the committee, write me, or Death Impends or Banana. We will come back to you.

Earlier in the year, we asked so that you can express an interest. Now we're asking SERIOUSLY.

You need to be able to handle Excel and a bit of Access. The requirements and tasks of the job haven't changed.

You should be able to handle the database, to import/export files from Excel to Access and vice versa.

A tiny bit of .html can't hurt.

I will not be gone and can provide help if needed. I ...might... however, not be around during the change of year, it's still an open question right now.

But if you write to us, we will reply. I will probably send some files in September so you can familiarize yourself with the structure of it all.

There is some effort involved in getting the game running at the beginning of the year. It depends on how clean the data is. Once everything is set up, updating the database is actually a little trivial because there's a little helper program for that.

Updating the scores only takes maybe 15 minutes every couple of days.

Keeping the database up-to-date during the change of year is a little more time-intensive. But I hope to transfer something usable so that this process only takes a few hours (each year).

I will leave for a week-long holiday on Tuesday. So please think about it and message me/us in the meantime.

Alright, here's a last call....

It is my turn to hand over my part of the DDP work to another person. Please contact the committee if you are up for taking over the data part for the DDP.

While we have received some interest the last time, it would preferable to find somebody who is already somewhat in the know about how to work with Excel, Access, maybe a bit of .html (only in the rare case of troubleshooting or changing the score rules).

If you volunteer, we can do the transition to the next year together. I promise, I'll assist heavily.

And well, I want to assure folks that if nobody steps up, I can do it for another year. The machine is well-oiled, I'd say, and I am having a bit of fun with it. BUT:

If I stay on as DDP co-host, I will not take over the DeathList Cup.

I might not be able to assist in a smooth transition next year. It could be an abrupt change from 2024 to 2025, so it would be a big improvement to do that this year.

And who knows if I am staying motivated for another year. I don't want to run away screaming like former host The Man in Black.

I can very well understand if you would withdraw from the DDP organization, but everyone would be grateful if you stayed! The same applies to the other hosts!

We are all happy and grateful that you all organize the DDP, maintain the database, evaluate everything, and write obituaries.

The work involved is probably impossible for outsiders to understand, so please everyone stay healthy, interested and motivated!

At the same time the point of the Cmme is that no one should be irreplaceable, and that no one should be stuck on it for years and years. Look at TMIB. On both counts. Personally speaking I'm still worn out from my tenure running the front page, to the point even researching DDP teams is a struggle, let alone competing or hosting another game. And Reptiles done far more than I ever did.

I would implore someone who knows Excel and doesn't have kids to take over, while the man can teach any quirks of the system. We all owe Reptile his demob status, and the game requires his replacement.

"Visionary" scientist and DDP pick Leo Nefiodow died in 2022 according to the Kondratieff Foundation:

Probably also not found out until some time in 2023.

While I can’t take over this aspect (I am not technically proficient and due to an eye condition can only use tablets which Excel and Access don’t work well o.).  If the committee need help elsewhere I can assist.

I've been asleep in the DDP for awhile. Ruffo is my joker. Only three others had him in that capacity, all behind me.

Six years in a row now I've got 100+ points in the DDP. Wouldn't have seen that coming a decade ago when I finished in 188th place.

Johnny Ruffo brings me to 71 points and rank 21. Not that bad for my first year I think ? I hope one hit more…

The October estimate is a bit skewed as there were 25 hits and 4 obits found from past hits (8 August Squires, 13 September Yolande, 24 September K Baxter, 21 August E. Hoffman), making the October monthly rate high, on par with January.  Regardless of when the hits came, they still add towards the final total.

At the time of writing, the hits stand at 270, only 11 hits away from a new record.

Again, the final total estimates have increased, having broken the 300 barrier.  With 50 days left, a new record is certain, but how far will it go?
