Who Should Be On The 2024 Deathlist

Lemme just throw this one out there: Philip Zimbardo. Has that aura of low-end Death List about him, in very much a John Nash/Robert Pirsig kind of way. Was a regular tweeter up until January of this year when he just stopped. This is the most recent footage I can find of him, from nine months ago:

He looks like a Vulcan.

a few names for consideration:

  • Tom Smothers (87) Comedian - stage 2 blood cancer but he claimed in July the prognosis is good (just ignore the fact that he's selling a lot of his possessions, as well as his ranch home, in recent weeks).

Snip

  • Ryan O'Neal (82) Actor - mentioned above already (sorry to repeat), but no one mentioned his decade-long battle with Stage 2 prostate cancer in additional to his other health problems

welp, that’s two down before the starting line (an annual tradition at this point). also, I see someone made a thread for Dr Ruth two days after my suggestion, so I guess it wasn’t an awful idea.

alternate recommendation:

  • Mark Volman (The Turtles) (76) - has Lewy Body Dementia. he still tours (as did Gordon Lightfoot when I suggested him last year), but this condition tends to get bad very quickly.

I don’t see them going for William Russell, Brigette Bardot or the Pope. Think if they wanted Roberta Flack she would have been on it this year.

Let’s hope they have seen the rumours of Noam Chomsky’s poor health.

I keep getting a feeling they going to ignore Esther Rantzen.

Do you think June Spencer is just that old now it feels too easy a hit for them to include her now? I don't remember seeing anyone aged 105 or more on the official list :ghost3:

One of the most notable and longest-lived radio actresses in the UK, who spent 70 years playing a major character in the most-listened to radio soap opera of all time. She should definitely be included, and should probably have her own thread (not that I'm going to make one, I'd probably be chastised) :P

She is a genuine household name here, and her passing will lead the headlines. There'll also probably be a good deal of scurrilous/scandalous stuff to follow.

My Prediction, which I already prepared for New Year's Eve but didn't wanted to send to Book yet because the survival of the Number One is in the limbo territory at this point and the inclusion of my subs could mess up the order, looks actually quite similar:

  1. Jimmy Carter

  2. Dick van Dyke
  3. Esther Rantzen
  4. Nigel Starmer-Smith
  5. Alan Greenspan
  6. James Whale
  7. Joanne Woodward
  8. Michael Caine
  9. Robert Wagner
  10. Stanley Baxter
  11. Cleo Laine
  12. Ethel Kennedy
  13. Dick Cheney
  14. Julie Goodyear
  15. Jean-Marie Le Pen
  16. Bob Newhart
  17. Robert Duvall
  18. David Graham
  19. Prunella Scales
  20. Shannen Doherty
  21. Desmond Morris
  22. Glynis Johns
  23. Noam Chomsky
  24. Patricia Routledge
  25. Clint Eastwood
  26. Norman Tebbit
  27. Mel Brooks
  28. Denis Law
  29. David Attenborough
  30. Douglas Hurd
  31. Pete Murray
  32. Imelda Marcos
  33. James D. Watson

Luise Rainer made her debut on the list at 104 and was a first time hit.

- Caroll Burnett : still active apparently and doesn't look bad for a 90 woman but an icon and her camp attitude seems like the kind of thing that attracts the committee. And myself.

Catching up on this week's Emmy awards, Carol Burnett showed up to present an award. Looks and sounds amazing for someone on the verge of 91, still standing without aide and making jokes.

Another presenter of the Emmys. I had a lot of respect for was Christina Applegate who has MS and walked on stage with a cane.. She looked great though despite what is such a horrible disease to have to deal with and being so young.
