The Dead of 2024

Recommended Posts

A bit niche, but Kari Wahlroos, one of the main perpetrators of the OneCoin crypto scam, Finnish businessman and alleged billionaire has died at 56.

Started off as a local colostrum salesman inspired by fraudsters Trevor Lock and Petteri Jussila, made atleast an estimated four billion euros with OneCoin and bought hundreds of apartments in Dubai. This year there'd been some media investigation on his wealth and businesses, and for the first time he'd started claiming he was "not an OneCoin insider". He never regretted anything, kept being involved in other crypto scams and never kept a very low profile.

Anyways, he died in a Malaysian hospital from a combination of streptococcus, diabetes, heart problems and stomach cancer after having an amputation earlier and spending two months in coma. Sometimes karma does catch up to you.

Sir Kit McMahon (wiki), Aussie-born British banker who was Deputy Governor of the Bank of England from 1980 to 1986, dead at 97.

Obits: TimesTelegraph

As his 2 successors are dead, the earliest living Deputy Governor is now Rupert Pennant-Rea (born 1948, wiki). Whilst I'm here, also worth noting that Lord Mervyn King (wiki), Governor from 2003 to 2013 (and arguably the most famous one), is 77 in March and still obese.

Looks like popular movie website Aveleyman is dead.

The home page has been replaced with a big sign that simply reads "GAME OVER".

A pity. The best website on the web for putting an actor's face to a name.

Aveleyman's homepage is back up but all working links now redirect to a copycat site called 'film dope'.

Thought I'd follow on from Alfred Hitchcock Presents by looking at Tales of the Unexpected. I've covered both the original U.S. and longer running U.K. series.

Tales of the Unexpected (1979–1988)

Directors
John Glenister (born 1932), John Gorrie (born 1932), John Davies (born 1934), Dezsö Magyar (born 1938), Simon Langton (born 1941), Chris Lovett (born 1945) and Giles Foster (born 1948). There are 26 who are deceased, including the great Norman Lloyd (1914–2021). I can't find birth details for John Bruce, Gareth Davies, Graham Evans, and Christopher Lukas but they could be living.

John Glenister reportedly dead aged 92:

Father of Robert and Philip Glenister. Z Cars director.

If "unmentioned here" means he was unmentioned in this thread, then yes. The majority of deaths aren't posted here, because there are more relevant threads for them.

I'm fairly sure I went back to early November in the thread (when he died) and didn't see a mention of it. Unless I'm going blind. EDIT I probably wouldn't have considered that thread because of it's ambitious title and TT wouldn't come to mind?

Just seen a tribute posted online where Forteans meet to Dr Peter Fenwick - one of those highly esteemed medical types who veered into territory some would regard as paranormal

Been dead since 22 November so he's likely had time to figure out how many of his earthly questions are now answered from wherever he finds himself today

There's a search function for the forums. You can use it before posting to see whether anyone has already said what you're about to post.

Celeste Caeiro dead at 91.

Once mentioned by Spade as a possibility for 2022, she gave flowers to soldiers in 1973, hence the name Carnation Revolution.

Would have scored as well! Celeste Caeiro QO.
