Linda Nolan would probably remained in too even though there would be better candidates to keep imho.
The Unknown Man 587 Posted September 3 The 2024 list has fallen behind the 2010 list. Though I think this year's list will end with a final score of 10, with these names: Carter (though I still think he will reach 100) , Laine, Chomsky, Baxter, Woodward and Le Pen should hopefully bring that result sooner or later.
sodoffbaldrick 36 Posted September 3 If the deaths don't pick up may i propose a topic for next year dedicated to the large number of people dropped from this years list due to only 25 being allowed to remain on the list. The list of the dropped should be called "Missed it by That Much"
Bibliogryphon 9,592 Posted September 4 The 2024 list is going to have the latest fifth death in the last 10 years. The average number of deaths at this point in the year is 9. The record breaking 2020 list had 12 deaths at this stage and if we wanted to break the record (assuming an even distribution of hits throughout the year) we would need to be at 14 3

Death Impends 8,008 Posted September 6 Yin and yang. DL 2023 did their own thing to the disappointment of the forum and it ended up their second best. DL 2024 gave the forum a lot of what they wanted and it's been a clunker.
msc 18,486 Posted September 6 I stand by almost everything I said on January 1st on page six. All the really ill people then still are, they're just unusually all still alive. The 24 in 24 prediction might be slightly off, mind you.
Jonah 180 Posted September 6 Winters can be particularly difficult for some of the picks on the list as they become increasingly frailer and sicker. I still expect a double-digit final score, with many deaths occurring in November and December (and continuing through January, February and March).
tracy 2,432 Posted September 6 This has probably been the driest year for celebrity ambulance chasing since I became somewhat invested in it as a teen in the mid-2000s. Sure, there's been a handful of expected ill dudes peacing out (Keith, Field, Burrow, Irwin, Doherty), but their field of replacements who are obviously circling the drain is pretty skimpy, and aside from that, it's just dry spell after dry spell, and the actual deaths are very light on top-of-the-line names. Pretty telling that, as comatose the DL has been, there's only been a single miss, and it was Doherty, vs. Crosby, Boothroyd, Kaczynski, Berlusconi, Gambon last year. I mean, even 2022 was pretty respectable despite Smith, Piggott, Cribbins, Newton-John, Johnson, Walters, Benedict, etc. dying off the list. And yet nobody wants to rub it in this year. No Yoko Ono death? Liza Minnelli? Douglas Hurd? Hal Linden killed in a BMX stunt gone wrong? Alan Alda succumbs to SuperParkinson's: Extreme Edition? Andy Taylor decides he doesn't like taking medication? Brian Wilson's dementia turns out to be Gena Rowlands-esque? One of the more forgotten picks from the past like Tommy Chong, Tim Johnson, Ronnie Wood, Mike Ditka, Mr. T or whoever else? Ghost town. But not literally. It's funny to me that the year began with Johns, Hayes, Randolph, and Jewison all taken out in the span of a week or two. I figured we'd be in for another year of clearouts, but now apparently all the huge geezers have just decided they don't want to die.
Bibliogryphon 9,592 Posted September 9 I have lost a lot of my secondary game stalwarts this year. Ray Lawler, Gudrun Ure, William Russell, Timothy Dudley-Smith, Brian Trueman and Ysanne Churchman These have been hanging around for a long time so my 2025 lists will need a few newbies but I cannot explain why the main list seems so undamaged
bfc 50 Posted September 9 James Earl Jones really should have been on the list. 4

I mentioned this before but i strongly suspect there's been a new health breakthrough with AI being used in the medical field or something. The death drought we've experienced is highly unusual. Who knows. 2025 will probably be the biggest year ever on account of all the overdue names.

Could it not just be that they're tough old bastards with access to the best healthcare, and also that there are many people on the list who aren't really in terrible health but are just old? Prince Philip looked like a zombie for about a decade before his death. He looked like he'd die if he sneezed too vigorously but he had constant access to the highest standard of healthcare which kept him going. He'd never have made 99 if he was an average Brit.

Bibliogryphon 9,592 Posted September 19 How much do you think the committee should be charging celebrities to be included in the 2025 list? Forget alternative medicines for just $250000 you can buy a year of survival by having your name included in the 2025 Deathlist* Treatment successful in 92% of patients
Joey Russ 7,229 Posted September 19 Tbh I think we were extremely overdue for a lackluster year. The last time the list went into single digits was back in 2011 which was well over a decade ago. And, I honestly don’t think there were too many potential replacement candidates for the list (obviously I think people like Doherty or James Earl Jones could’ve but that only would’ve somewhat added to the tally, the list would probably still be lackluster). Even the crowdsourced list is only at 10 hits and usually they include candidates that are somewhat more fringey relative to the Deathlist standard of fame
Commtech Sio Bibble 2,059 Posted September 19 It's simply bad luck. None of picks are bad. Most of the deadpools are going strong. My personal shadow list is up to 17 hits now. There's a couple of names who I would consider misses (Frank Field, William Russell, Doherty) but it's a decent list.
The Unknown Man 587 Posted September 19 If the committee were to drop 21 names because of the 25 name rule, here's who I think should be kept on for 2025: Jimmy Carter Dick Van Dyke Pete Murray Alan Greenspan Ethel Kennedy Cleo Laine Sandy Gall Noam Chomsky Mel Brooks Dennis Skinner Nigel Starmer-Smith James Whale Stanley Baxter Joanne Woodward Jean-Marie Le Pen Hans Blix Linda Nolan Norman Tebbit Willie Nelson Esther Rantzen Roberta Flack Prunella Scales Raul Castro Imelda Marcos Sonny Rollins
The Unknown Man 587 Posted September 30 Three months left of the year and still no hit since July. If the current barren period continues through November 21st, the 2024 list will fall behind the 1993 list. Although if the list gets a fifth hit this year, I think it's still likely to go down as a big disappointment.
Steve 608 Posted September 30 I still think this was a good list and with 3 months to go still has potential to achieve a score close to double digits. But I will continue with my feeling that a quiet year this year gives us strong potential for big successes in 2025 and beyond. Plenty of overdue candidates if they don't go before the end of this year which include Jimmy Carter, Noam Chomsky, Denis Law, Nigel Starmer-Smith, Joanne Woodward, Cleo Laine, Esther Rantzen, Hans Blix, Jean-Marie Le Pen, Roberta Flack, Willie Nelson, Dennis Skinner, Norman Tebbit and Sonny Rollins. Plus I think Dick Van Dyke is now a serious contender along with some of the other old hanging fruit such as Stanley Baxter, Sandy Gall and Gene Hackman. Then there are the lingering cancer survivors such as James Whale and Linda Nolan. Candidates to consider for putting on in 2025 include Johnnie Walker, Don King, Jean Marsh, Richard Wilson, Michael York, Michael Schumacher and Grace Slick. Returns for Yoko Ono and Linda Ronstadt (maybe). All these names I can see helping DL achieve big in 2025.

I agree I do not see that this is a bad list at all, and I am surprised really that it has not had more hits. I am torn about Linda Ronstadt.. I have her on my Shadow List but I see many people I would like to go my 2025 list, and I have been thinking of the possibility of taking her off. Seems she is holding her own pretty good and not getting any sicker at the moment.

Bobytomi 125 Posted October 1 What is happening now reminds me of what happened with supercentenarians last year, from 16 July, 2023 to 17 November, there were no deaths of supercentenarians over +113 (people born 1907-1910), then November and December a few, including one of 116, in fact most of the deaths were of supercentenarians under 112, but when January arrived, the massive collapse began and completely destroyed the Top 20 oldest supercentenarians, and it has been like this all year, now this same situation is happening with deathlist so maybe when winter begins to approach something may happen...
