The format of this game should actually depend on how good the music is because there is a definite and finite group. You have to choose which ones to promote or kick down. Sometimes it is finding the best of a bad lot but I have learnt quite a bit about eras that passed me by

That's exactly why I find the games where my knowledge is patchier (60s) just as enjoyable as the eras I love the most (90s) or grew up with (00s). Sometimes you find a few gems you weren't previously aware of, and even if you don't, it's interesting, it's an education, and it doesn't take long to do a little skim of them on YouTube.
