Charles De Gaulle 487 Posted June 1 I think we need a thread for Paul Biya. At 91 years old he is the world's oldest leader and the longest serving with a five decade reign. This guy has future immortal written all over him if you ask me. Given he is the longest reigning non monarch in the world, I think that means he deserves more than the odd mention on this forum.
YoungWillz 21,251 Posted October 8 Rumours he's died per TwitterXGossip site. But will there be confirmation or a hoax confirmation? Edit: Denials coming in.
livingbygrace 429 Posted October 8 If we find that it is true does this thread get the trophy for the shortest amount of posts on a personal person's thread from start to death notice? Edit with new information coming in: Guess his thread lives on as he does

YoungWillz 21,251 Posted October 8 I loved this one from my early days: Posted OP January 2005, I reported his death exactly 9 years ago today (8 October 2015) with no other discussion in between on his thread.
Lafaucheuse 4,093 Posted October 8 As I reported on the thoughts and opinions about the 2024 list earlier, he was absent from the OIF summit a few days ago which raised a lot of question about his health. No smoke without fire I’d say, probably a good contender for next year list

Evil Grimace 361 Posted October 10 A summary of the recent questions over his health and plans for the 2025 election. I have amended the article headline accordingly. The 91-year-old African president who keeps defying obituary-writers (and drol!).

arghton 6,887 Posted October 14 Lots of rumors going around in the last few hours. Some are about an opposition politician apparently saying that Biya has died. There's also been prayer ceremonies for Biya's health today, and already on Thursday the government released a statement that included a part where they ask people to pray for him. Keep an eye on his constitutional successor Marcel Niat Njifenji too, he's been ill for a much longer time and has been in hospital for most of the last year. 2
