I remember the days when athletics in the Olympics was a desert wasteland for GBNI.

Expectation high, brilliant run, silver is a great reward. Well done Hudson-Smith. Doing a lap of honour like he won it.

When was that?

Jade Jones fucked in the Taekwondo again.

More sailing nonsense means we don't even get into a race that was more farcical than any that have been abandoned this week (this one wasn't obviously, so we didn't get another chance) - the French and Italians had crossed the finish line before anybody else had got to the final mark.

At least KJT is bossing the Heptathlon. So far, so good. Would love her to win it.

I think we’ve won kitesurfing gold. But you never can tell in these confusing sailing events.

edit: definitely gold. If I was 70 years younger I wouldn’t mind having a go at that. Kitesurfing I mean, not Ellie Aldridge.

I thought we'd won it the first time, then it turned out that the medal race wasn't THE medal race, obviously, because the Brit had won. Anyway, we smashed them all anyway and we have our first Gold in nearly 3 days! 50 in total, which was the bottom of UK Sport's estimate, and still plenty more potentially to come. Nice job, Ellie!

Have the BBC bothered to show it yet? They’re currently about three cycling races behind, pretending it’s live.

Yep, they showed both races, as live I think as they were showing the live diving (medal chance, fucked it) and then the live taekwondo (medal chance, fucked it, still possible medal chance). This is the problem: you can only show 2 things live and only one on the tv (the kite surfing was live on the iPlayer for those who were bothered). They're not showing anything pretending it's live, they told us they were showing us the keirin quarter finals from a little earlier (which means we didn't have to sit around waiting for twenty minutes after the first one while they peeled the three girls up off the track that somehow crashed AFTER the race had finished, we could crack straight on with the next one). Then we've seen highlights of the first 2 events of the omnium (which I'd have like to have seen a bit more of, but I know the big two, the elimination and points race are to come and will likely be shown in full), with the last bit of the second was live. And from then on it's all been live - men's sprint quarters, women's keirin semis. Now the elimination race (live). Have I missed anything?

KJT’s a Fucking goddess. I’d LOVE for her to get the gold, and it’s looking good at the end of Day 1 of the Heptathlon.

I adore Kat. Loved her wide-eyed enthusiasm in 2012, been there through the crushing failures in Rio and 2015 and 2017 Worlds, the highs of 2019 Worlds when she beat Thiam and finally won a global gold. Then being in amazing shape in 2020 only for Covid to intervene and cancel the Olympics, being injured in 2021 but getting fit to give the Games a go only to collapse in a heap halfway round the 200m with a snapped achillles. Then being down in the dumps and nearly not appearing at the Commonwealths, only to go and win them, and backing it up by winning by the World Title back last year. I desperately hope she gets a medal and I would be delighted if it was gold and she got the better of Thiam at the Olympics.

Fucking incredible run by Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone in the women's 400m hurdles, setting a new world record in a time that would only have missed out on qualifying for the 400m flat final by a couple of tenths of a second

And she thinks she can go sub-50 yet. Felt for Bol, she got sucked into racing Sydney rather than running her own race which would have put her closer and got her silver.

Another dodgy decision in the boxing for Cindy Ngamba, the Cameroonian refugee living in Bolton and training with GB Boxing. Don't know why I'm surprised anymore. Bronze for her is still the first ever for the Refugee Olympic Team.

Noah Lyles ran the 200m final infected with COVID, he won bronze, but I believe he should not have competed in the race, as he could have infected other people, he even greeted his opponents even though he knew he was infected, I found it very irresponsible, to say the least.

Just want to give a shoutout to Pakistan's Javelin athlete (Arshad Nadeem) who broke the Olympic record of 92.97m and got gold. He's become Pakistan's first medallist in 32 years.

And first ever outside of hockey. Been an incredible Olympics for firsts in Athletics: Pakistan, Botswana, Dominica, St Lucia off the top of my head. Lord Coe will be happy. I'm sure it's also gone down well at home that he beat an Indian into second place. ;)

Maybe it's just me.

These heptathletes - Denise Lewis, Jessica Ennis-Hill and KJT - well they are a bit self-centred and up themselves aren't they? I mean, yeah, most sportspeople are, but these girls seem so far up their own arses they could taste the back of their heels. And they are just a bit good at what they do, not great at one thing, yet they feel golden and deserving of absolute worship and devotion.

Never had time for any of them.

I'll be glad of the medal, thanks very much, but I do enjoy not having to see these people.

Just me. Meh.

You're so right. It's just you.

Oh wait, athletes in search of Gold? Nope, it's still you.

I don't care if their desire is gold, or some other colour of metal.

As people, they are a bit crap imo. Even for sportspeople.

Glad I'm right though, thanks. ;)

With the greatest of respect, what the fuck are you talking about?  How are they self-centred? They are asked for their experiences because they have knowledge of a wide-range of different athletics disciplines because they had to be proficient in a wide-range of different disciplines, whether it's throwing, jumping or running. It makes them useful pundits to have. They do 7 events in 2 days, and collapse on the track at the end exhausted. It is a phenomenal effort and does take a slightly different type of athlete to attempt it - many heptathletes drop out and specialise in whatever they're best at: Dafne Schippers, the former world 200m champion, started as a heptathlete and competed against Jess in 2012. Denise Lewis is involved in UK Athletics, so knows a lot of the athletes personally and works with them closely, so can provide an insight into their thinking and how their training is going. Personally, I always think they downplay their achievements, and don't at all get where you're coming from that they demand absolute worship and devotion, I'm sure they couldn't care less what you think of them one way or the other. Oh, and we are incredibly good at it. Tokyo was the first time since 1992 that a Brit didn't win a heptathlon medal (because Kat got injured mid-competition) - Denise (bronze in 1996 and gold in 2000), Kelly Sotherton (bronze in 2004 and 2008), Jess (gold in 2012 and silver in 2016). No other nation has a record like it.

Really weird take if I may say so.

I don't have to like them. I did say it was just me. I was giving an opinion from my point of view, with which you are free to disagree.

Which you just have. Eloquently, I may say.

You have your personal opinion, I am entitled to mine. And we shall disagree and be happy.

Sorry, but there's a sensible point here. They are. They have to be. Much as I hate the phrase 'it is what it is'. It is.
