Thoughts on the 2025 Deathlist

Recommended Posts

I know. Its not out yet but it can still be discussed. A quick prediction before its released. After how badly the 2024 list went I think there's a strong chance they might take a bolder, more unusual approach. They usually take more risks when lists fail to do well.

I kind of think it's not that easy anymore. They can't go for those easy hits, like Johnny Clegg, this time. There aren't that many around, as far as I can tell. And cancer treatment has gotten better. People who would have died 5 years ago, don't anymore, or at least last a year or two longer.

The obvious cancer newbie pick is Peter Yarrow.Would be stupid for the committee to leave him off as he is clearly very near the end.

Other than that Ian Smith is the only other in my view must have terminal cancer case as it is a rare more aggressive form of lung cancer.

Ludek Miklosko would also be a good name to include buy not sure he is the sort of name the committee wiĺ go for.

Black Bart is a great name bit I don't think he is DL material fame wise.

Sophie Kinsella is another cancer name probably one the committee will think is worth taking a punt on as she is legally famous and has GBM since 2022.Then again she is stable and by no means a cert.

I think the committee would be wise to avoid Chris Hoy Trisha Goddard and probably even Eddie Jordan as can see them being the next Linda Nolan/James Whale type.

Victoria Jackson is a difficult name to analyse as she has Recurrent breast cancer and says she might live another 3 years with a new drug. Then again the tumour is near her windpipe which is ominous.

Then there are wildcats like Randy Moss and Mike Peters who are extremely sick but it could go either way at this point.

Then there is the King who I think the committee should pick just because he is the king we don't know where his cancer is which I still think is suspicious and he is still undergoing cancer treatment.

Hope they re-add Yoko Ono. Think next year she will go.

Victoria Jackson and Randy Moss don’t feel like the type of names the committee would go for.

I agree with many of your points Sean. Randy Moss was my most difficult,  I started him on my Shadow List but decided to pull him off for someone else.. I think he might be a good one to put on a mid year pools as a possible hit.  Planning on watching Hoy, Moss Jackson and even Frank Caprio for next year.  I was really kind of surprise but happy for him how well he is doing with the kind of cancer he has.  Was willing to take him off the Shadow List and will be watching if I feel mid year he needs to be on a list again

I think this is mainly because celebs have gotten better at keeping stuff like that under wrap. There's bound to be a really famous person terminally ill based on how much of them and how many of them they are.

It wouldn't surprise me if PR agencies are familiar with this site and don't want celebs they work with on it.

Can't blame them in this Internet age. Like, look what happened with Noam Chomsky, they were literally random people dming his wife asking if he was dead. There's just nothing for people to gain by letting the public know they are terminally ill.

I will say this. It's a pity because their style of picking random 90 year olds is pretty boring. If I was on the team I would go with more imaginative picks like Vince McMahon, Chevy Chase and Lindsay Buckingham. Big names, known health issues but are not terminally. A style like this would make for much more interesting lists tbh.

All I ask is that they don’t put van dyke at #1 and I’m fine with the list

I regret to say I think it will be the case. Plenty better option imo though (Chomsky, Woodward, Le Pen, Rantzen…)

I don't know I could see Pete Murray or someone similar going ahead of VanDyke, and VanDyke staying in #2 spot.  They have to see there can be other failure people out there to take #1

Yarrow should be Number 1 IMO.Famous enough easily for the DL and a certain death in the first few weeks of 2025  probably sooner.

All of those are really good and far better suggestions.

Dick Van Dyke is alluding that he is dying but the dude is 99 and can still dance.I mean you can ever drop him but having him at the top of the list seems to me a bad strategy as I could see him lasting a few more years.
