Thoughts on the 2025 Deathlist

I'm disappointed they keep placing Robert Wagner on the list. He's famous and old, but has no none ailments or diseases unlike Denis Law, Tom Brokaw, and Ted Turner.

I'm only surprised he isn't...No.2.

Saint, Hedren AND Novak. That's half of Hitchcock's still living leading ladies on the list. Vera Miles, Shirley MacLaine and Julie Andrews is the other half.

Gut feeling is the list could get 15-20 just due to the vast number of frail oldies and lingerers from 2024 they have.

Need  time to absorb  but first feelings are happy about Julie Goodyear finally making a debut, Yoko Ono and Angie Dickinsons returns and some wise retentions like Cleo Laine.  I do agree that Roberta Flack  might be a miss but as others have said  with so many names having to be dropped this year there were no easy decisions

I'm eternally grateful to Giorgio Armani  for the stylishmess, feel, quality and sexiness of his underwear.  I always  feel great and confident when wearing Armani/Emporium underwear. I credit them with giving me a few lucky 'events '  So I hope he doesn't shuffle of the mortal coil this year but if he does  I hope his company's successor maintains his high standards!

Really glad they included them. Would have gone for Miles over Novak but ok

Not bad but I still don't quite get Robert Duvall, Angie Dickinson or Hal Linden. They seem like random people in their early 90's

I won't judge too quickly but I certainly would've kept Pope Francis on.

But who goes last? Perhaps a decent poll in the making - “Hitchcock Blondes”.

Dennis Law has dementia since many years now like Bobby Charlton had. I think it’s a bad drop.

Bardot, ok

Time will tell if DeathList 2025 signals a return to form and can Make DeathList Great Again!"

Immediately expected Donald Trump to be in at no. 50.

On first glance, this list does look pretty good, like it will fetch a good 15 hits, maybe more (more details on this later).

In terms of drops, Tom Brokaw should have had priority over Robert Wagner, Denis Law over Clint Eastwood, Roberta Flack over Patricia Routledge, Ted Turner over Desmond Morris, and Raul Castro over Sandy Gall. Like last year, why is Dennis Skinner up so so high (no. 4, why?), whilst ill oldies Noam Chomsky, Joanne Woodward and Cleo Laine have all moved down several positions?

David Attenborough and Brian Wilson could have waited another year for a return (2026 certs IMO), but really not much that can be complained about. Even James Whale is an understandable drop. It was genius getting John Williams and Tippi Hedren on. Len Deighton also likely to deliver this year. Also an applause is in order for finally dropping Dick Cheney and leaving Emperor Akihito alone yet another year. Good bravery by the DL committee!

Impression after thinking it over for 2 hours is that it's a fairly solid list. I do think Peter Yarrow and Antonia Fraser should have made it but I'm happy with most of the newcomers and returners. My prediction of 17 in the Correctlist pool might be optimistic but I believe DL will bounce back from last year.

Most likely hits IMO are Noam Chomsky, Esther Rantzen, and Stanley Baxter. Still have doubts about Dick Van Dyke, he looked rougher last year but I still think he'll probably make 100.

I think we have to give the committee praise for continuing to run this game year on year.It is a staple of mine and I'm sure everyone on here's new years eve rituals.I find it almost comforting that whatever year I have had I can always count down the New Year then check the newest deathlist.

There will be at least one “whatever year I have” that you won’t be able to count down… RIPSean

It's not a very exciting list, but maybe after last year, that's what we need.

Has any famous person ever commented on seeing their name in a death list? I'd be curious to know what Dick Van Dyke or Cleo Laine or whoever thought.

Ronnie Biggs mentions it in his autobiography, if I recall correctly. His involvement spreads even to one of his carers(?) creating an account on his behalf.

Edit: Not a carer, but his biographer. The account is called CriticalDivide in case anyone was wondering.

Just realised there aren't any state leaders on this years list. Could be the first list ever without one.

Yeah. Not massively different to my own so can't really complain. Our idols/heroes/people we grew up with are getting older.
