Davey Jones' Locker 1,324 Posted November 8, 2012 Whilst the Butler languishes in gaol, a new Catholic crisis erupts in Australia. A police officer has had a gutful of the child abuse cover-ups and has turned to the media to talk about the extent of the Catholics' crimes: http://www.abc.net.a...p-abuse/4362000 http://www.abc.net.a...094?section=nsw Horrific. The expose should be enough to give the Pope a few more grey hairs... UPDATE: Now there are allegations that even the Knights Hospitaller were at it: http://www.abc.net.a...s-group/4362590 http://www.abc.net.a...-claims/4362970 http://www.abc.net.a...-claims/4363454 UPDATE 2: I just found two fairly new articles about the Pope's health: "Surprise new cardinals spark pope health concerns Published on 24 October 2012 - 1:48pm Six non-European Catholic prelates will join the Vatican's College of Cardinals in a move which may influence the election of the future pope, amid uncertainty over Pope Benedict XVI's health. The 85-year-old Benedict, who has been looking increasingly tired and worn, said Wednesday he will appoint cardinals from Colombia, India, Lebanon, Nigeria, the Philippines and the United States in a surprise consistory in November. The college, the elite body that advises the pontiff and elects his successor upon his death, is currently heavily weighted in favour of Europe. Religious watchers had not expected there to be another consistory until next year and the surprise announcement sparked concern among Vatican watchers that the elderly pontiff's health may be worse than thought." Source: http://www.rnw.nl/en...health-concerns ****** "The next Pope? Jobers Bersales Cebu Daily News 7:58 am | Thursday, November 1st, 2012 "... Still, the announcement of the red hat for Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio ‘Chito’ Tagle was met in Rome with much whisper amid overwhelming approval. With the reigning pope now clearly ailing, a younger and fresher face for the papacy appears imminent." Source: http://newsinfo.inqu...0/the-next-pope UPDATE 3: Apparently, death is also on the pope's own mind at the moment as he gave a homily on the subject a few days ago. Is this his own way of letting his flock know that he senses his demise is near at hand now?
Davey Jones' Locker 1,324 Posted November 13, 2012 The pope goes into a nursing home (but only on a pastoral visit, unfortunately). "After chatting with elderly residents and their carers at their home, near Rome's Gianiculum Hill, he said he had been "rejuvenated and strengthened" by the experience. [snip] Earlier this year the Pope started using a cane on occasions and recently he appeared to have trouble reading the text of an address he delivered in Rome. But given his advanced age he appears to be in reasonably good health"
Davey Jones' Locker 1,324 Posted November 26, 2012 Ratzinger finally apppointed those new cardinals the other day. This is what was said about his health: "The pope's health appears to be good but he has been looking frail recently and has started using a cane." Source: http://www.reuters.c...E8AN05420121124 I will leave it up to the learned members of the DeathList committee as to whether he warrants a place on the 2013 list. This gem came up today, too, about the Pope's alleged smoking habit: "John Paul II did not smoke, but Pope Benedict XVI reportedly does (or once did), apparently favoring Marlboros."
