The thing that baffles me is that they did put « former pope » next to him on the list. So I don’t think they just mistake the popes, in this case they would have just put « pope ». I wonder the odds of them missing his passing and just realising it yesterday. That would explain Why Francis is so high while I was sure they would put him on the lower half

No, I think it was probably a predictive text kind of thing.  They put "pope" and didn't notice that it had auto-completed with the wrong pope.

I was thinking something similar but also think it could be a sort of coding error where it copied over the data from a previous year and because it recognised the word pope and filled in the rest.
