Our cousins over at The 110 Club have a few words about McCoubrey, apparently he's a "very private person" and there's been no coverage of him anywhere since his 110th birthday. I think that just means that he's basically a vegetable right now.

And a quick mention here means it has...

For fuck's sake....... the guy in that article looks like a prune who's seen a ghost.

The world's second-oldest man James Sisnett has died aged 113.

Two teams score DDP points (if a qualifying obit turns up).

That makes another nine 'Victorians' chalked off this year, leaving 23 'verified' left before the mantle is past on!

It's allready down to 21 !

I still make it 22 'verified' Victorians on the go.

With the passing of Mamoiselle Moulonguet, it's all even in the race between the last Victorians,

11 off being born before 01/01/1900

& 11 off being born between 31/12/1899 and before Queen Vic's death on 22/01/1901.

Place your bets now!

This particular death race could be all over by the end of this year!,

Sounds like a good idea for a poll - do you know all their names?

Grace Jones and Ethel Lang are the only two over whom Victoria actually reigned, so I'd like to see one of them be the last survivor from that list. (It is interesting that no British colonials from that period are left.)

Two oldies dead waiting obits for DDP points:

Luo Meizhen, reputedly 127 and Evelyn Kozak, the World's oldest Jew...

World's oldest - Jiroemon Kimura - has passed away at the age of 116. So far I've found it only in Japanese. Senility is being cited as the cause and the services are yet to be scheduled.

Not only did he live long, but also his name is very, very long for Japanese standards. 木村次郎右衛門

Although I can't read Japanese, the date seems to refer to the 28th December 2012 on the link. I'm not saying he's not dead, just that I'm not sure about that link. That day was the day that Luo Meizhen appeared in a host of news outlets and Meizhen, as stated above has died. So it is Meizhen that's gone and they've mentioned Kimura, rather than Kimura going?

Either way, with Kozak gone, Grace Jones is now in the top 10!

Shouldn't be long before he get's the obit required. That's three oldies gone in a day. Did they all get a letter from ATOS saying they were fit for work or something?

Not sure whether she is 127, but it won't make a scrap of difference points-wise...

There is no verification of Kimuras death so I'm going to assume he's still alive until I get reliable verification.if he has died though it is a sad day.He is/was the worlds oldest man in history and quite a character it seems.

Meanwhile, the death of Evelyn Kozak reduces the number of people born in the 1900s to just 10. (or 9 if Kimura really is dead). They'll all be gone by the end of the year at t his rate :(

I make it either 10 or 9 (depending on Kimura) people left born in the 1800's

  1. Jiroemon Kimura 1897
  2. Misao Okawa 1898
  3. Jeralean Talley 1899
  4. Susannah Mushatt Jones 1899

  8. Mitsue Nagasaki 1899
  9. Emma Morano-Martinuzzi 1899
  10. Grace Jones 1899

Both of these sources seem to believe that Kimura is dead. Also, Hikariko ONO, whose verified Twitter account states she is Japan's Deputy Cabinet Secretary for Public Affairs, has tweeted that he is dead.

One of the worlds oldest people has died aged 132 http://www.rferl.org...a/24731879.html

Jiroemen Kimura dead at 116 http://nymag.com/dai...est-person.html. R.I.P to a legend

Seeing his former schoolmate and childhood friend die might be enough to sadden Mick jaggers heart and have him keel over in the next year so.

Kimuras death means that there are no more men alive who were born in the 19th century or Victorian era.The world's oldest man is now the ridiculously youthful James McCoubrey (from t he USA) who's only 111 .He's the 32nd oldest person in the world so it's going to be a long time before the worlds oldest person is a man again!

Fascinating. I am still cheering on Grace Jones to be the last 19th Century person standing, since, as an Englishwoman, she was an actual subject of Queen Vic's. Given she was born right on the cusp of the twentieth century (7 Dec 1899), making her the youngest of the survivors, she stands as good a chance as any of them anyway.
