maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted September 15, 2013 I know biology plays its part in keeping women alive longer but some of the likliest contenders for current oldest man (by virute of being well nourished individuals living in relatively sanitary surroundings) probably got ruled out in WW1.
CaptainChorizo 1,983 Posted September 15, 2013 I would think the new next few years might be the best chance to see more guys on the list of Worlds Oldest since we are coming towards men who were born in a time where they were too young to fight in WW1 and too old for combat by the time WW2 comes around.
Sean 6,329 Posted September 16, 2013 http://palermo.repub..._anni-66556342/-New World`s oldest man Arturo Licata appears to be fading as this aricle states he is now deaf , blind and has been bedridden for the past 4 months. If he dies before January 21st when Wash Wesley of America turns 111 (assuming he will be validated by GRG soon and survives that long ) then the World`s Oldest man tiitle will drop down to a 110 year old for the first time in 23 years! He also lost his son recently too. I don't think he'll last much longer. Looks like Alexander Imich of Poland/US will be the worlds oldest man (the GRG verified Imich before Wash Wesley). Guest Guest Posted October 24, 2013 Surprised maryport's theme team didn't have Mexia on, though she's still a DDP pick. Also means Grace Jones is now #7. She just moved up to 6th position. time 8,606 Posted November 14, 2013 Obit here So no more British people born in the 19th century Ethel Lang was born in 1900, which was still the 19th Century. The 20th Century started in 1901, the 21st in 2001 despite what the millennium hypesters would have you believe.
Guest Guest Posted November 14, 2013 Ethel Lang is the 2nd oldest person to become the UKs oldest person .Only Eva Morris was older when she inherited the title(as far as I can tell), so I don't expect Ethel to last too long ,sadly
the_engineer 1,415 Posted November 14, 2013 Ethel is on my shortlist now. So no one born in the 18 hundreds from Britain is alive anymore, I think these deaths are sometimes alot bigger than a A lister or world famous person dying. Definitely not in our lifetime and most probably not in our kids life will the last person from the 20th century die, takes at least two generations . Magere Hein 1,400 Posted November 15, 2013 Definitely not in our lifetime and most probably not in our kids life will the last person from the 20th century die, takes at least two generations . Assuming life spans stay as they are (a dodgy assumption, I know) we may expect the last person from the 20th century to die around 2115. It doesn't take "at least two generations", but rather more exactly a century from now, or slightly more than three generations. regards, Hein

Bibliogryphon 9,586 Posted November 15, 2013 OK I have some time on my hands so here is the current top 10. All women, the oldest bloke is Arturo Licate from Italy who wasn't born until 1902. 1. Misao Okawa 1898 Japan 2. Jeralean Talley 1899 US 3. Susannah Mushatt-Jones 1899 US 4. Bernice Madigan 1899 US 5. Emma Morano-Martinuzzi 1899 Italy (Oldest European) 6. Anna Henderson 1900 US 7. Antona Rivera 1900 US 8. Ethel Lang 1900 UK (Oldest Britain) 9. Nabi Tajima 1900 Japan 10. Blanche Cobb 1900 US So Ethel is starting much higher than Grace Jones did.
