Numpty 3 Posted January 19, 2016 The odds of falling off your perch once you reach 100 is about 50% a year (this little nugget of info given to me by an actuary) Approx 13,350 (Source http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-26681306) are aged 100 therefore 6,675 will make it to 101 and 3,338 to 102 etc etc To prove this very crude formula there are approx 170 people aged 107 plus Source: http://oldestinbritain.nfshost.com/living.php Ergo carrying on with what I wrote above 1669 at 103 834 at 105 417 at 106 208 at 107 (wroughly agrees with my point above) not a bad crude rule of thumb carrying on it all seems reasonable 104 at 108 52 at 109 26 at 110 13 at 111 6 at 112 3 at 113 (as we know our dear friend Gladys Hooper celebrated her 113 birthday on 18/1/2016) so the result was 3 instead of 1)

YoungWillz 21,029 Posted January 19, 2016 BTW, I just read an article saying that Zhou Youguang (110, father of Pinyin) very well may be the oldest man alive! According to this article Masamitsu Yoshida, keeping wicket at 111. http://bigstory.ap.org/article/f3dd1509df064eb6b66d32173db13299/worlds-oldest-man-japanese-dies-age-112 Wiki agrees but what do they know? Whitehouse 872 Posted January 19, 2016 This year might be a significant year since we're about to lose the last living links to the 19th century, Now, it's a constant debate if the year 1900 is counted to the 19th century or the 20th. I think belongs to the 19th. There are now two people (verified) that were born in 1899 and two born in 1900. Susanna Mushatt Jones : July 6, 1899 Emma Morano: November 29.1899 Violet Brown: March 10,1900 Nabi Tajima: August 4, 1900 All female.

There was no year 0, so the first century was years 1 to 100, ergo, the C19th is years 1801 to 1900. Yes, we all celebrated the millennium a year early.

I think what really excites people is not that it's a new mathematical millennium or century. What they really care about is how 18 switched to 19, 19 to 20. Susannah Jones has just under 6 years to beat her record - might be a bit of a stretch! She doesn't take her meds apparently. It's a miracle she's still alive. She definitely won't make it to her birthday, imo. Morano? Maybe. I give it a 5% chance.
Spade_Cooley 9,515 Posted January 30, 2016 I defer to our "non-evil twins" over at that longevity forum, but I personally don't think Calment's record will be beaten within the next 50 years, she was just an insane outlier.
Guest Guest Posted January 30, 2016 When I was a kid in the 1980s there was a 120 year old Japanese man in the Guinness Book of Records, but he seems to have been airbrushed from history?? I would look him up but I can't remember his name. Imuzi or something like that?
