James Bond 007 (Connery/Moore/Villains etc)

Diana Rigg's passing was mentioned in the "British Character Actors" thread, of course, but let's not forget that she was also George Lazenby's leading lady in "On her Majesty's Secret Service".

I wondered if this year's death series was coming to an end, but now I think that Diana's death may herald the second wave.

The only Bond girl to become Mrs Bond. Briefly of course!

She came to hate Lazenby after that film. Started off on good terms. Even a little flirty apparently. But he was a skirt chaser surrounded by women. And he was as some critics called "a clothes peg". Wasn't interested in the process of putting on a scene and easily annoyed at having to redo things if he got his lines right. Whereas she was a classical actress who didn't need multiple takes to meet the director's demands and I guess a lot of people grew tired of him not doing things the way a professional should.

He never acted before and only really got the gig because he looked like how James Bond was perceived to look and had traits like him (girls, cars, fighter). Some extent I admire that. Lazenby was the most aggressive fighting Bond until Daniel Craig. He did all his own stunts except for skiing (because of insurance). But he did blow it. His hubris got him the job and also cost him it.

After O'Rahilly & now Rigg, those who worked with Lazenby around the late 60's should definitely be feeling twitchy.

Maybe he'll drop, before years end?

He's 81 now so wouldn't be a shock at that age but seems like he keeps himself busy in the Bond community. I've always liked that he and Roger Moore were always up for attending events and sharing stories. Dalton and Brosnan moved onto other things while Connery always had a love-hate relationship with being Bond. The public loved him but Connery got fed up of being Bond. No doubt much easier for Daniel Craig to only have to do one film every four or five years than five films in seven years or something like that.

I remember the character he played, Hugo Drax well. Great actor.

As well as being a fine actor and a great Bond adversary, Michael Lonsdale is also I believe the 200th DDP score of 2020.

Michael Lonsdsale  best known as the 'baddie' Hugo Drax in Moonraker has died at 89

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-54234139

He died in his sleep in his apartment - What a beautiful way to be taken.

He was a very romantic man. Decided to remain single, because the only woman he loved - Delphine Seyrig - was married.

RIP, my 10th hit of 2020.

Jeroen Krabbé (b. 1944) - General Georgi Koskov - The Living Daylights.

Will Yun Lee (b. 1971) - Colonel Moon - Die Another Day.

Michael Lonsdale (b. 1931- d. 2020) - Hugo Drax - Moonraker.

Sophie Marceau (b. 1966) - Elektra King - The World Is Not Enough.

Mads Mikkelsen (b. 1965) - Le Chiffre - Casino Royale.

Toby Stephens (b. 1969) - Gustav Graves - Die Another Day.

Max von Sydow (b. 1929 - d. 2020) - Ernst Stavro Blofeld - Never Say Never Again.

Christoph Waltz (b. 1956) - Franz Oberhauser - Spectre.

Drol mentioned earlier this year that Yaphet Kotto is meant to be unwell, but on top of that, has anyone seen anything of Joe Don Baker in recent years? Ever present fun presence in film at one point, plus of course Edge of Darkness.

Plus I don't think that list includes No Time To Die.

I'll have a look at it later.

How sad.  Perhaps that was why he looked so morose in Day Of The Jackal.

I see her widower, Jack Youngerman, died earlier this year too.

The villain in No Time to Die is Rami Malek who wont be threatening the DDP for another 50 years.

Only remaining credited cast members of Goldfinger are:

Sean Connery (born 1930) - 007

Shirley Eaton (born 1937) - Jill Masterson

There's a lot more of uncredited gangsters and others listed on the IMDB but I've decided to not list them here as who the heck even knows if they're alive anymore, searched some of their names and didn't even find a birthdate.

I had a look at this earlier as well. There's been a lot of 007 deaths in the last couple of years. Dr. No is down to just three. Between the other three original Connery films (i.e. not including Diamonds are Forever) – From Russia with Love, Thunderball and You Only Live Twice, there's only about a dozen surviving credited cast members.

And then there's another two names of interest to me. I'm not sure if Andre Maranne and Ronald Rich are still alive? We've had the debate over Maranne before on here. He was reported to have died in 1992 but that was later removed from IMDb after he was confirmed to have been living in Brighton in the early 2000s. Nothing since, but there is an editor on his Wiki talk page who claims that he was alive and well in late 2018. He'd be 94 now. Guess we'll know soon enough.

Ronald Rich, I'm not sure. First glance on Google I can't find much.

Toby Hadoke who is a solid source on aging British TV actors says Andre Maranne is alive as of April 2020. Good enough for me.

Ronald Rich presumably would be news due to 2 sets of obsessive fandoms (Bond, Dr Who) but was alive 5 years ago as he was sending fan mail out then. That's last I heard of the guy.
