Sad that he didn't get wider recognition... mentioned it to my wife today and she was like "Who's that". BrunoBrimley 86 Posted July 2, 2009 I'm not particularly impressed, shocked or lyrical over Malden flying the coop. For crying out loud Marjorie he was 97! What were you expecting, that he'd last as long as Ling Ting Tong? A talented actor who caught my eye in a late night showing of Where The Sidewalk Ends-----which woould make a nifty title for an episode of Streets of San Fransico in which the Stone character succumbs to ancientitity------I culdn't get enough of him after that and searched the listings weekly for things he'd be appearing in. He was also quite good in Baby Doll-his screen wife, Carroll Baker from that one is still alive- and then there was One Eyed Jacks, The Hanging Tree, Birdman of Alcatraz The Adventures of Bullwhip Griffin. Truly a great and gifted actor. I still say his role in Skag was fantastic and it's sad the television honchos didn't see the need to bring great talent to the bilateral viewers each week. In remembrance of things past or passed, let us pause and remember this fitting Deathlist style quote which Malden provided us in the character of Archie Lee Meighan (in Baby Doll): "If your daddy turned in his grave as often as you say he'd turn in his grave, that old man would plow up the graveyard." And for those keeping track there were a number of times when Malden appeared in films with the soon to be late Eli Wallach, so Eli may want to start packing his bags for his trip upstairs (or down as the case may be). Speaking of Malden memories----------it was many years ago and I was on a train headed for Boston when I considered heading off to Malden instead. I had never been to Malden Massachusetts as far as I knew and to this day I still haven't been. Anyway it was at about that same time that American Express sent me a simply delightful offer. If I applied for their charge card, even if I wasn't accepted and deemed eligable for that card (which charged an insanely high annual fee even then in addition to requiring payment in full every month))) I would still receive their gift. The gift was a little kit which had a miniature stapler and a staple remover along with a pen and a pad of paper. It was all tastefully done in black plastic and silver colored metal ((as in stainless steel or some other cheap metal)). I was accepted for the card but refused to pay their annual fee and so I was summarily terminated as a member of their group. It didn't matter though because in that time I had rubbed shoulders with people who had been in contact with people who had somehow mingled with people who in some way shape or form been in near proximity of people who had seen Karl Malden.
