100 today :champagne::party::birthday2::birthday:

We sure she's actually still alive rather than faded into obscurity?

Far as I know, still visits the Commons now and again (and is known for her "don't bullshit me" icy glares to fools), is well enough to travel to the Scilly Isles, and still writes her poetry. She's also apparently very adamantly Old Labour.

She sounds like somebody I could have a very enjoyable natter over a cup of tea or a pint with!

Surprised she hasn't topped herself if she's still Old Labour looking at the current state of the party/country.

Ah, as a wise person once said: "If in doubt, outlive the Blairites". She's giving it a good old go.

Less than a fortnight to go before she turns 102!

Must be very tempting for the committee.......!

Must be close to irresistible

msc agrees with the overall sentiment on this Pan Breed favourite (TM).

Aye, close to irresistable I'd say

Though we might get over the excitement if the ensuing obits choose to quote huge chunks of her published poetry

Quote

Mary Wilson’s poem on Harold’s death

My love you have stumbled slowly

On the quiet way to death

And you lie where the wind blows strongly

With a salty spray on its breath.

For this men of the island bore you

Down paths where the branches meet

And the only sounds were the crunching grind

Of the gravel beneath their feet

And the sighing slide of the ebbing tide

On the beach where the breakers meet

I mean it's not great, but still better than anything written by Simon Armitage at least...

Don't disrespect Armitage - the man who wrote the lyrics for Channel Four's "Porn - the Musical"

"Then pay me in cash and call me a cab" - classic

Can't remember if that was in his contract or it was a line Faye Rampton sang in the show

Definitely does anyone have any info on her(Falkender) ?.

Yes, she's done an interview with the Mail.

85 now, but not much of note on health grounds. Denies the affair rumours, and I actually believe her, purely because, from the little I know of this thread's main topic, I can't imagine any woman admitting an affair with Harold to Mary in private and to still be breathing 40+ years later.

Doesn't mean there was no affair though.  From what I remember, it was strongly rumoured at the time.  Not that that proves anything either.

Aye, I know it was strongly rumoured, but then so is the Queen's abdication in the Australian press going off this website! :P

This is one of the 1% of deaths where a real newspaper reports it before it ends up online...
