Tempus Fugit 214 Posted January 2, 2006 A good choice, he's got Emphysema and lung cancer, not to mention having a very unhealthy lifestyle and being obese. I can see him dropping dead while performing his awfully good jazz.

Anubis the Jackal 77 Posted January 2, 2006 A good choice, he's got Emphysema and lung cancer, not to mention having a very unhealthy lifestyle and being obese. I can see him dropping dead while performing his awful jazz. Ah, but he's also just finished a 2-week stint playing at Ronnie Scotts jazz club. Can't be that unwell. Cup of Tea 3 Posted January 2, 2006 His heart may have just suffered a pounding considering xmas/new year. He doesnt look the type to gith his heart a rest from Grease and Sugar and Lard and Salt on even a normal occasion.
Earl Gloomy 7 Posted January 2, 2006 not to mention having a very unhealthy lifestyle and being obese. A very unhealthy lifesytle?- are you also refering to his previous teenage tastes? - i do like being controversial.
Tempus Fugit 214 Posted January 2, 2006 not to mention having a very unhealthy lifestyle and being obese. A very unhealthy lifesytle?- are you also refering to his previous teenage tastes? - i do like being controversial. Nothing to do with his sexual preferences back then, just the fact he's known to enjoy cannabis and until recently a lot of whisky. Combine that with his obesity and the fact he worked in very unhealthy Jazz club environs for decades. I'm surprised he's still alive.

In common with a lot of people on this year's list I think George Melly is a bit of a wasted contender. See him a lt around the West End and he seems to be in rude health. Overweight yes but miles and miles away from death's door.

Overweight yes but miles and miles away from death's door. He'll go suddenly will George, probably while performing, One second he'll be warbling away, the next they'll be carrying him away feet first. It's the way he'd want to go. Sticky Threads 0 Posted January 3, 2006 I don't get it. Why is a Viz character on the death list?
Tempus Fugit 214 Posted January 3, 2006 I don't get it. Why is a Viz character on the death list? George is not a Viz character, he's far more entertaining. Roger on the other hand is, and therefore very unfunny.

Phantom 2,537 Posted March 20, 2006 As long as Melly is enjoying working, I think he'd be around for a bit longer and possibly may last the year out. As soon as his illness starts to get to him and he gives up the fight that's when he'll give up the ghost.

football_fan 42 Posted May 28, 2006 This article is about a month old, but it was the latest I could find on him. It is his last journal entry dated April 20th, 2006. Last words
Banshees Scream 110 Posted May 28, 2006 This article is about a month old, but it was the latest I could find on him. It is his last journal entry dated April 20th, 2006. Last words Seems as if he is a very unstable individual. His wife doesn't trust him with the information regarding his health. He also finds pleasure out of radiation treatment. In the end he seems somewhat optimistic. Though only a few weeks before his death, wasn't Lou Rawls quoted as saying '"Don't count me out, brother' I'm feeling rather optimistic...
