Godot 149 Posted January 9, 2006 Coming in to deathlist territory he's 80 now and I hope he lasts for ever. His Berraisms certainly will. Does anyone know which ones can be authenticated? The one above would seem appropriate for Ariel Sharon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yogi_Berra
Godot 149 Posted January 9, 2006 Sadly, I can hear the wind howling and the tumbledweed rolling through this thread that seems to be suffering from the curse of Charley Farley. I can't believe that Yogi Berra could be so neglected. This is the man who gave his name to Yogi Bear of Yogi Bear and Boo Boo fame. This is the man who gave us such gem comments as: "You can observe a lot just by watching." and: "You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there." and: "You better cut the pizza in four pieces because I'm not hungry enough to eat six." and many more. I can even offer a caption competion with Yogi and George Bush who must owe most of his Bushisms to the great man: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Sparky_..._yogi_berra.jpg There may even be a Yogi Berra/Richard O'Sullivan connection. Yogi is living proof that that some sporting Americans (but not many) are significant. Go Yogi. Snuff it this year and catch them out.
Canadian Paul 97 Posted January 9, 2006 I considered him for a little, but he seems as fiesty as ever. Recentely he sued... I think it was TBS... for some silliness about Yogasm this and sex with Yogi Berra that. Might need to watch his blood pressure a bit if he's getting worked up about silly things like that, but he's probably got a couple of years left in him at least. Godot 149 Posted January 9, 2006 He's not at all well known in this country. I bet there are quite a few people, even in this forum, who have never heard of him. I only know him for the Berrasims, rather than his playing days but I wonder whether he actually said some of them.

Not sure if you saw this or not, just putting it out there.
Godot 149 Posted January 9, 2006 It's a sort of US equivalent of Colemanballs or Murray Walker. A few DL possibilities among some of the people quoted here: http://www.btinternet.com/~homepage/ballsa.htm My favourite is: "The big cuban opens his legs and shows his class." On a par with Brian Johnston's: "The bowler's Holding, the bastman's Willey"
Canadian Paul 97 Posted March 27, 2006 In case you were still wondering Godot, Yogi Bera is doing better than ever. He just returned to New Jersey after spending five weeks with the team. (It's tucked away down there).

chiesa52 132 Posted September 23, 2015 Yogi Bear was not in the Flintstones as far as i know- Yogi Bear had his own cartoon show- it was an afternoon show for kids, starting I would guess in the early 60's- his name must have been a play on Yogi Berra though!
