The guy who created the New Zealandic comic Footrot Flats, Murray Ball, has dementia according to his wife. She revealed it about a year ago in a radio program.

I just saw just now here:  http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-03-12/murray-ball-new-zealand-cartoon-footrot-flats-creator-dies/8347596

Ball's gone but Stan Bloody Lee lives on. Where is the justice in that?

Anyway, for some reason, I was randomly thinking about Footrot Flats today. I hadn't read it for years but it popped into my head for some reason.  :o

Here's someone that I didn't expect. Think he might make a Deathlist appearance in a few years, depending on how long his ALS diagnosis is.

Actually, is he famous enough for his own thread? I know Spongebob is very well known in America (though whether you like it or not is a different story, I don't), but is the show well known in the U.K.?

Yes, it was quite popular over here in the 90s - when Channel 4 did that Top 100 Animated Films/TV show in 2004* compiled by their sponsors the voting public, Spongebob finished in 28th place, ahead of The Magic Roundabout, Rugrats, etc... I thought it was a bit rubbish but I was probably too old for it, younger family members loved it.

*Channel 4 didn't have SuperTed on the voting shortlist, so crap list.

Shame about the howling grammatical error in the very first line.  There's no hope, is there?

Not exactly a cartoonist -- coulda put it in CEO's thread but seems more logical here.

James Galton, the former president and CEO of Marvel Entertainment Group who is widely credited with saving the famed comic book company from bankruptcy in the 1970s, has died. He was 92.  Galton died Monday surrounded by his family at his home in Naples, Fla.

Comic book artist Sam Glanzman, who mostly did maritime stories, dead at 92. I remember him being part of my DDP write ups last year, turns out he's been picked again this year (though I've yet to see a QO).
