Who were they we had Anne Kirkbride this year Bill Tarmey in 2012 and Betty Driver in 2011 but I can`t think of any others.I definitely think that Jean Alexander should have a place on next years list and Liz Dawn.

Maggie Jones. I was trying to think of the 4th myself but I'd forgotten about Bill Tarmey!
she died back in 2009.
Wow!! Feels more recent than that. In that case I've got no idea who Guest Guest is talking about!!

His definition of major must be rather loose but anne, bill, hibbard and sophia haqyes might be the four?

Getting back on-topic. What's a pub doing employing an 86 year old? That job could go to a young unemployed person.

I have noticed that Betty's hotpot dosen't seem to be served in the Rovers anymore, it seems to have been phased out by sandwiches, maybe thats so when she actually does retire, no one will miss her, as there wont be anyone to make the hotpot, or will it be a case of a stranger wandering into the rovers and asking for a Betty's and getting a Fred's instead and then commenting on how things ain't what they used to be, will her hotpots live on after her, or will she just be forgotten? :D

You'd be amazed.

There's a pub near where I am at the moment (let's just say east Kent) that has had the same landlord since 1948. He's in his late 80s now.

His bed is around the corner of the bar, he doesn't believe in pumps so the beer comes from a tap in the barrell, the till is his pocket and the prices always change.

If you drink there late he leaves the keys and asks you to lock up and pop them through the door when you leave.

It's kitted out in genuine 1960s furniture, with 1970s glasses.

Oh, nobody ever goes there because the only sign that there is a pub is a handpainted bit of cardboard saying "ReAl aLE --- thIS wAy"

It's known as the pub you take somebody else's wife to...

Is this place still open, sounds perfect for a DL meet.

Liz Dawn does not expect to live another year. http://uk.tv.yahoo.c...-123306736.html Bit of a miss not having her on this years list esp after Bill Tarmeys death!

Yet she's still kicking a few years later.

I know it's in bad taste but of the big four foverer presents who'll go first? June Brown, William Roache, Eileen Derbyshire or Adam Woodyatt?

Is Eileen Derbyshire still on the Street? I thought she had left and then remembered that I was thinking of Thelma Barlow.

Yes, she's appearing less often these days but she's still around.

Yes I can see her lurking on your shadow list.

Sue Nicholls is worth paying attention to. She had a brush with cancer but more interestingly she is the only surviving 'ghost' from Rentaghost and she is married to Mark Eden (Alan Bradley) who will be 87 this year.

Anyone have any health info on Leonard Fenton? He played Dr. Legg in Eastenders, but I remember him best as Erich Gottlieb from Shine On Harvey Moon.

Lyndam Gregory (Sammy Patel) was last year, but I'd hardly class him as major...

He wan`t major at all .To be classed as major I`d say you have to have been in it at least a decade or have been in some high powered iconic storyline like Richard Hillman or Alan Bradley. These are the only living cast members I would say are major and over 60:

Jean Alexander

Mark Eden

Thelma Barlow

Stephen Hancock

Irene Sutcliffe

Eileen Derbyshire

William Roache

Barbara Knox

Peter Baldwin

Roy Barraclough

Johnny Briggs

Amanda Barrie

Philip Lowrie

John Savident

Liz Dawn

Malcolm Hebden

Julie Goodyear

Sue Nicholls

Brian Capron

David Neilson

Helen Worth

Bruce Jones

The only major deaths in the last ten years have been:

Lynne Perrie(2006)

Jennifer Moss(2006)

Maggie Jones (2009)

Betty Driver(2011)

Bill Tarmey (2012)

Geoffrey Hughes (2012)-EDIT :That's probably the fourth!

Anne Kirkbride(2015)

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3134312/Former-Coronation-Street-star-Bruce-Jones-reveals-blew-1million-benefits-axed-soap.html Former Coronation Street star Bruce Jones is now living on benefits.Given his alcoholism and previous suicide attempts he might well be worth keeping an eye on.He is the sort of guy you can`t imagine seeing old bones.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/bill-treacher-leaving-role-arthur-5169707 :Found this from February.Bill Treacher who played Arthur Fowler is now 85 and wheelchair bound due to a disease called Ataxia which basically is neurological damage of some sort.He also notes that he left Eastenders due to migraines most likely linked to stress which is probably high blood pressure.Doesn`t look like he is in immediate danger but certainly not getting any younger.

David McAlister, UK stage, screen and voice actor who played Dennis Richardson in Hollyoaks, died on 26 June aged 64 from cancer. He was also in The Archers. https://www.thestage.co.uk/features/obituaries/2015/obituary-david-mcalister/

Just checked IMDB: You can add Triangle (in which he played a doctor), Doctors and Holby City. But more importantly he was the Megara voice in the Tom Baker story Stones of Blood for Dr Who.

With all those doctor parts/shows, you'd have thought he would have had longer. RIP.

A lot of these names were on my radar often from other sources but many of the Coronation Street and Archers ones were new to me.

Thanks for the research.

You know what, I'd like to see Doreen Keogh on the DL in a tribute to this forum managing to get her Wikipedia entry changed from "dead" to "living". Surely a run behind the bar at the Rovers' Return in the 60s, plus her standout appearance in that Father Ted episode, should see her qualify as DL-suitable?

Doreen Keogh's Wiki entry is only four lines long but I have a feeling she is the sort of person who should get an Obit and possibly the introduction to an article about the early cast of Coronation Street.

They did a Grange Hill Where are they now? when Terry-Sue Patt died

I think, because she was the first ever barmaid in the Rovers, she might even sneak a quick 10 second mention before the break on News at 10 assuming its a quiet day.

Hopefully her death would inspire a re-run of some of the really early corrie episodes.

I concur with spade she should make the news however briefly but she is a shoe in for the BBC website the mail and the guardian. She was in Corrie on and off for 15 years which should cement her chances. After all Lyndam Gregory and Sophia Haque got fairly wide online coverage and they wheren`t in the show very long .Does anyone here remember her being on the street? I know a fair bit about the show but can`t gage how important she was to the show at the time.

I only remember her from clips of the show when they ran tributes for other actors that were in it about the same time such as Pat Phoenix

I might have remembered her - the character's name is certainly familiar - but my parents' TV only got BBC, so I never saw Coronation Street until the telly eventually died and was replaced. :pop:
