Johnny Macknowski died back in April, aged 101. Announcement by family here (EU blocked).

Picked on some pools on here.

Think this means that Herb Wilkinson (wiki), 100, is now the oldest living BAA (the former NBA) basketball player.

Floyd Lane, a basketball player implicated in the point shaving scandal of 1951 and a part of CCNY Beavers history, reportedly dead aged 94: https://nypost.com/2024/07/29/sports/ex-ccny-player-floyd-laynes-death-provides-reminder-of-second-chances/

Interestingly, Wiki has him later declared innocent, while the Post's report quite clearly has him admitting to taking $2500 from gamblers.

Dikembe Mutombo has died at 58.

Hit #17 for me this year.  Sadly, this was the outcome I feared for him back when it was reported that he was diagnosed with a brain tumor in October 2022; it sounded like a glioblastoma situation and that's probably what it was.  So he made it for just about 2 years after that, and that's on the long end of the typical spectrum for this horrible cancer.  RIP, Dikembe.

I had totally forgotten he was diagnosed until I read your comment. Thought this was much more of a sudden thing. Big loss for the NBA.

DDP hit for me - though I have to say I'm kind of surprised, after the first couple of months of this year i just figured he was a wasted pick
