Ideas and possibilities for 2007

Recommended Posts

Belfast born actor James Ellis, has suffered a stroke, four years ago he also had a massive heart attack.

I think with these ongoing health problems he'd be a good future pick.

Just have to change the dates on the tomb-stone............................................

Too late I've realized that this should be on the other thread. My apologies.

Re: Nobel Prize winner's in Physics. I've got Lamb and Townes on my DDP list, and Ramsey is basically the same age as Townes. Aage is on my Hartlepool and I've been keeping an eye on Mossbauer. The rest fail either the sickness/age test or the famousness test in my opinion.

I've got to disagree. When someone wins an award of this type, they get an automatic international obit. Honestly, I've only heard of a handful of the people that are winners, dead or alive. Honestly, is famous Lauren Hester (I'm not even sure that's her name, I'm talking about the HIV positive Gay activist police officer from New Jersey.) She still apparently got a UK obit, points were awarded.

RE: Nobel Prize in Chemistry winners (move this when you move Lb5's post)

I've had my eye on Lipscomb recentely, but none of these people really pass the fame test in my eyes. Chemistry isn't what's in these days, it's all about Physics for DL fame.

Of course, they'd probably all pass DDP fame...

Famous by DDP Standards and famous by DL standards is a completely different thing. DL is allowed to be more subjective on fame, DDP has to have a set way of picking them. Hester only got a UK obit because it was a slow news week and I agree, every last one of them on that list should be considered more famous than her.

I'll leave the discussion on DL Famous Test to someone more experience than I however...

To paraphrase, "science is either Physics or Stamp collecting."

I play the game of DDP standards, to steal a phrase from paleontology, there are some real fossils among the ranks of the Nobel Prize winners. Everyone seems like they're pushing 80.

we should keep an eye on Earl Woods, Tiger's dad. According to the article he's had cancer for two years, plus you never see him at any golf tournaments anymore.

Not out of the Woods yet then. :D

Probably a good one for DDP, but not DL I would think. Though the "famous for being famous" debate rages on, I think it's safe to say that when someone is outright denied a Wikipedia page (it just redirects to Tiger Woods), then they probably fail to meet our standards.

Then again, you are the mod.

Don't let Wikipedia be your guide to famousness, lots of people who are famous don't have a page.

Former ITN newscaster Sandy Gall hasn't got a page, but would be good enough for DeathList.

Former ITN newscaster Sandy Gall and actor Burt Kwok haven't got a page, but both would be good enough for DeathList.

Come to think of it, Ernest Gallo lacks one as well.

But Gallo, Gall and Kwok all suffer from a lack of a page. Earl Woods suffers from a redirect page, which means he'll never be allowed to have one.

Tiger Woods is one of the world's most famous sportsmen. He's obviously huge in N. America, W. Europeans and places like Japan and Korea are golf mad, and I'd imagine he's pretty well known in Africa. Earl Woods is a big part of Tiger's life story. Keeping in mind the people currently on the selection committee, I'd hazard a guess he'd make the list hands down.

But generally speaking, CP, I agree with your views on true famousness being a requirement for inclusion on the DL. In my view, Earl Woods passes the test.

The least hardy of any category.

Certainly the least hardy, probably also the most famous. Marquez has some sort of cancer, Pinter is ailing, Soly went through the gulags (though he's looking damn healthy for his age), Mahfouz just became the third longest-lived Literature Lauriate, rumours abound about Fo, Morrison is getting on a bit, Xingjian got kicked out of his own country (though I hear he's living comfortably)... a good pool of applicants here.

how about jack lalanne? he's gotta be pushing 100.

saw him on the tv not too long ago. doing 1 finger on each hand push-ups.

He'll be 92 in September, but if he's recently doing push-ups in that manner, it goes to show that he's as fit as a fiddle and not about to keel over anytime soon. Possibly one to watch in the next few years though.

naw, these are the kind that die suddenly. to healthy to get sick, then - bam - a lion jumps out and shoots them or something.

I haven't seen any posts anywhere about Ian Carmichael (b.1920). No-one has him in the DDP. I thought he might have been in the Carry On thread but can't find him on a Carry On cast list either. He seems to have disappeared.

Ronald Neame (b. 1911) I wouldn't have thought will last much longer. Among those listed individually by the BFI on their site, he is about the oldest alive.

More fuel for the fire:

FFS, LB@5O'C, this thread is NOT the "post some lists of people, all of whom have received similar accolades" thread, it's a thread in which you are supposed to suggest names of celebrities who are, in your opinion, likely to die (and, therefore, would be good candidates for the deathlist) in 2007.

Do you think it's amusing or clever to keep posting long lists of (mostly healthy) people? Are you going to invoke Lord Cthulhu's influence as some sort of lame excuse for this?

Come on Mods, please one of you have a word, ffs... I'm sick of trying to highlight this blatant post-whoring, making myself look the twunt; I'm in serious danger of post-whoring myself in the process. Am I the only one who notices/gets pissed-off with this spam? I hope not.
