Tempus Fugit 214 Posted September 29, 2006 The CPDP is now up! Just in case you lost the link, it's at this location. A couple things to note. Firstly, the Hall of Candidates won't be up for a while, so don't ask. I'm also surprised that no one other than me picked Mirza Hussain, whose case has been all over the BBC and who is scheduled to be executed on October 1. Famous for being Famous, but points in the bag. A last minute reprieve could be on the cards CP, don't count your corpses until they're in their coffins. I did see that, but my thoughts would be that Mushy would be cautious before giving in to the demands of the West. Recentely he's realized that the Middle East has seen him as a bit too West-friendly and his chances of assassination are high enough as it is. Recentely he took the (somewhat) bold step of claiming that the U.S. threatened to bomb Pakistan "into the Stone Age" if he didn't comply with him, so he might just go on with the execution to thumb his nose at the West. Or he might not. As we saw with Art Buchwald, no pick comes with guaranteed certainty.

Canadian Paul 97 Posted October 1, 2006 I didn't know where else to post this, but I was utterly surprised to find that George Lazenby is elligble for the Porn Star bonus due to his roles in the Emmanuelle soft-core porn movies. Anyhow, Hall of Candidates over half done in numbers, just about half done in letters, A-L is up. Tomorrow I'll be waking up to discover whether or not we got our first hit on the CPDP... the tension is tense.
maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted October 1, 2006 George Lazonby is - I believe - still married to the utterly manly Pamela Shriver, one time titan of female tennis. Personally I feel slightly sorry for the largely talentless lummox. He took the Emmanuelle jobs because he was a complete disaster where real acting was demanded. So, if in death he earns some additional points, fair enough.

maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted October 1, 2006 The average age of one of my teams is - like - 105 or thereabouts, I've high hopes that squad will be down to nine in October.

Looks like you have to wait about a month, CP Looks like he's still on the chopping block though, which means eventually I should get my points. The air of uncertainty is no different from that of a terminal cancer patient really. All 32 M names have joined the Hall of Candidates, which means I'm almost at 200 names up there. in eternum+ 22 Posted October 2, 2006 CP - I'm so sorry that I was unable to get my act together in time to submit my teams to you. Rather unfortunately, it's all gotten a bit hectic in the World of Eternum and so your DP deadline simply passed me by, as did your ever-so-kind DP deadline extension. Fingers crossed my picks were so rubbish that they'll still be around next year. The site looks spectacular, btw. Snaps!
Banshees Scream 110 Posted October 2, 2006 Dear Canadian Paul I was planning to join your Dead Pool but it slipped my mind, so I was wondering if you could register me in just a few days late? Think about it. -BS

The air of uncertainty is no different from that of a terminal cancer patient really. All 32 M names have joined the Hall of Candidates, which means I'm almost at 200 names up there. I'm rather hoping that the laughing bomber, Amrozi bin Nurhasyim, might br the first CPDP candidate to be executed. There is a final appeal to be heard very shortly and assuming that doesn't work (he has admitted to been involved in the deaths of over 200 people) a mutually convenient execution date should be arranged. The Indonesian authorities have refused my pick's request to be beheaded, so he will face the firing squad.
Canadian Paul 97 Posted October 4, 2006 Dear Canadian Paul I was planning to join your Dead Pool but it slipped my mind, so I was wondering if you could register me in just a few days late? Think about it. -BS I don't think so BS, sorry. That would require me redoing all of the 213 profiles that I have up there now to include any unique picks that you decide on. Not only that, but you can easily un-unique someone's good pick, not to mention that news has surfaced about the illnesses of several people (Louis Farkshisname comes to mind) that would give you a bit of an unfair knowledge base in the competition. Sorry BS, but next year is less than a year away. Anyhow, those 213 profiles now encompass all people with last names between A and R inclusive. At most, it'll be another 6 days before I get the rest of the profiles up, but it'll more likely be closer to 3 ("S" on one day, "T and U" on the next, "V, W and Y" on the last if I go according to my plan). Then I'll be done and I can coast through the rest of the game only updating when death occurs. Apparentely Vince Neil appeared in a much publicized sex tape, which isn't surprising but does raise the question as to which, if any, Motley Crue members haven't made a sex tape. Worth +2 porn points in any case. Also worth noting, I mistakenly left off Tom Petty in "The Simpsons" category, which means he's worth +2 Cartoon Bonus points instead of just +1. There, that about does it I think. Hopefully you'll join too next year ie+, but thanks for the compliment anyhow.
Captain Oates 21 Posted October 4, 2006 Dear Canadian Paul I was planning to join your Dead Pool .... [snip] -BS My team didn't make it either! I spent too long researching and then fell asleep as the deadline approached. I now have a very long list of Canadians Who Are Not Likely To Die Soon; I suppose that could have been my Theme Team. Roll on next year and let's hope that my (still) Unique Pick keeps breathing until then!
Canadian Paul 97 Posted October 6, 2006 Roll on next year and let's hope that my (still) Unique Pick keeps breathing until then! I had two unique picks... I had to decide between them, ended up picking June Havoc since she was more famous. Wonder if you had the other one... Anyhow, The Hall of Candidates is finally up. Now I'm really tired, so it's very much bed time.

Bald rick 9 Posted October 6, 2006 With a fully functioning hall of candidates the site is now an awesome spectacle. Deep respect to those with the time and skill to make it so. Doesn't the blue text on a black background hurt your eyes? I found it made it very difficult to read. But, as I haven't entered a team, I don't really care. However, I agree it is an impressive undertaking. If the site is finished, does that mean that this thread has pretty much served its purpose, and can be merged with all the other deadpool threads - at least three at last count? Or will the current situation persist of whenever anyone dies it gets posted in their own thread, as well as (probably) in either near misses or not exactly famous, AND in each of the deadpool threads. Makes it difficult to track the topics as related comments are not all together. Any thoughts, or am I to be shot down in flames for my impertinence?

Makes it difficult to track the topics as related comments are not all together. Any thoughts, or am I to be shot down in flames for my impertinence? Well Bald Rick, call me an old curmudgeon but it does seem a tad insensitive when a young man has abandoned his studies, done without women and worked his bollocks off for weeks on end to create a deadpool nestled within his own little thread, to then raise the question at this early stage. But I suppose there is a point - deadpools everywhere, can't move for deadpools. It's a phenomenon of modern living. One generation can't wait to get rid of the last it seems. maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted October 6, 2006 Dunno if it's that simple. There's middle aged pickers in DPs everywhere seemingly keen to see out the likes of young Lara Roxx, Pete Doherty etc.
Tempus Fugit 214 Posted October 6, 2006 Good work CP, now for the errors; Michael Mayne is he really a Canadian? I selected Billy Graham and Maggie Thatcher, but on those candidates pages that doesn't show. On Allen Carr's page (at the bottom) it has him selected by the wrong team. Now for the issues of contention; The famous for being famous deduction, I'd argue that is shouldn't be applied to Ruby Muhammad as she is famous for her position within the Nation of Islam. I note that Andrew Chan isn't classed as being famous for being famous but Mirza Hussain is, why so? Marie Smith Jones is surely only famous because she outlived her contemporaries, making her famous for being famous.
DevonDeathTrip 2,358 Posted October 6, 2006 I think the thread should be allowed to stay. I can see Bald Rick's point, but there are only four or five deadpool threads and they will float to the top of the board as and when someone dies. Well done to Canadian Paul for his speedy completion of the list of candidates. Good work sir!
maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted October 6, 2006 A minor point, Ms Bertrand is cited as the oldest Canadian at the top of her page but still fails to get the Canadian bonus. Points are thin enough there since she's not a unique pick.

Marie Smith Jones is surely only famous because she outlived her contemporaries, making her famous for being famous. Ah good, I'm glad someone went through and caught the errors... my eyes sort of glaze over when I do a lot at once... Mayne, Graham, Thatcher and Carr have all been fixed, along with Bertrand thank you MPFC. You're right about Smith Jones too TF, a slight oversight on my part. As for Muhammad, I think of it this way. I'm really famous for my position on Student Council, but there's no reason for anyone outside of that realm to have heard of me. Same with Muhammad, except that people have heard of her purely on the virtue that she's really old. If she didn't happen to live a long time, no one would have ever heard of her outside of the Nation of Islam. Hell, they even had to cook up the story that she was the widow of the founder just to make her interesting. So I'd say famous for being famous. Nothing differentiates Mirza Hussain from a million other prisoners save for the fact that occassionally a news story pops up on the BBC about his predicament. Once he's dead, his cause dies with him, and you can see from the fact that the only time he's mentioned in the news is when he's just about to be executed that not too many care now. Chan is probably less heard of on this side of the globe, but his case is far more important - a foreigner who ran one of the largest drug smuggling operations in the history of Indonesia - not to mention the interesting angles to the story. Admittedly though, it is a point of contention. If he wasn't the leader, I'd certainly dock him the point. I'm open to well-reasoned argument though, so if you want to make one, I will consider it, since that was one of the borderline cases for me. Also, if you want to argue that I should get an extra point for Mirza Hussain, I'll be very open to that too MPFC - The skill and time came from me, but also from TF who saved me a day or two of work by fixing the John Inman issue. Your kudos should go to him. Bald Rick - I do see your point, and I won't make a big scene if the mods agreed with you. My thought was, though, that once all the bugs have been worked out of the site, this thread will be like the HDP, WDP or DDP one - only rising when a death occurs. Otherwise, it'll sink out of view. Plus, there are a lot of threads out there started once the person has already died - if they've already died, the thread doesn't serve much purpose, but those are kept anyhow. As for the blue on black text - I've received a few mentions that it doesn't work for people... people have suggested changing it to yellow, which is most likely what I'll do. Thank you for the kudos though all. With Fender being rushed to hospital today, I'm hoping we can start off the CPDP with a bang soon.

Canadian Paul 97 Posted October 6, 2006 Hmmmm... Between this and the Weatherkid, I'm wondering if the DL forum isn't being exploited just a touch here. /urge to wreak havok rising Well I wouldn't have had the urge to start a Deadpool if it hadn't been for DL. It's not like I came here looking for participants. I'd been reading a lot about how Deadpools seemed to lacked style, and I thought it might be an interesting idea to create one that was (somewhat) based around the concept. No one had to join, and it's not like I'm really gaining anything from having a larger base to work from except for like... more work...
