Tommy Lasorda being reported dead just after release from hospital:

That's my pitch anyway.

Let's see if it's true.

Yep, seemingly so according to the Dodgers.

I met Mr. Lasorda in 1998 on a flight, when he was the interim GM of the Dodgers.  He was very nice and signed a piece of paper for me and we chatted (very briefly) about the Dodgers.  May he rest in peace.

Don Leppert, who played 40 games with the Baltimore Orioles in 1955, has died. He was 90.

Not be be confused (as I did in another thread) with the Don Leppert who played with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Senators in the early 1960s.

I’m not a big autograph seeker.  I have a small handful of baseball signatures, Sutton’s being one.  A great pitcher.  RIP

My own Don is the worse for wear too. His pitching arm fell off in the post many years ago, while his right foot was severed at the ankle when he fell off a giant mushroom during a photoshoot. It's true, I tell you!

Fortunately his buddy Robin Yount is around to keep him upright.

And on cue from my post two days ago....
As stated, I didn't expect the Committee to include both Aaron and Mays this year (and Pete Rose), but to sleep on both of them is negligence per se.
RIP Hammerin Hank, great ballplayer and man.

Not really a miss, as the committee usually eschews all the US sports folk.
