Green had been hospitalized in suburban St. Louis after choking at his home about a week ago and died Saturday of respiratory failure, his family told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The Cardinals confirmed the death Tuesday on Twitter.

Green hit .283 as a part-time player on the 1982 team that beat the Brewers in seven games in the World Series.

Gerald Williams, who had two stints with the Yankees, has died after a fight with cancer, Derek Jeter announced. He was 55.

Williams was drafted by the Yankees in 1987 and made his debut in pinstripes in 1992. The outfielder played five seasons in The Bronx before being traded to the Brewers during the 1996 season. Williams returned in 2001 and played parts of two more seasons for the Yankees.

Calvin Jones, the No. 1 overall pick in the 1984 MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners, has reportedly passed away following a battle with cancer.

The Compton, California native was a pitcher. He played at UC-Riverside before going on to play professionally.

Jones played for the Mariners from 1991-92. He finished his career with a 5-7 record and 4.33 ERA. Jones had 91 career strikeouts.

It was an Olympic sport until it wasn’t, and the bloody Americans only won gold once in six (?) Olympiads.  I know Japan did once and Cuba like 3 or 4 times.
