Prolific character actor Paul Gleason has died aged 67 from lung cancer.

He was probably best known for his role as the principal in "The Breakfast Club"

His imdb biog is very extensive.

How sad. Film aficionados may remember him in his role from Die Hard, though personally I enjoyed his performance as Professor McDoogle (Van Wilder's off-and-on nemesis) in "Van Wilder."

:P

I was, and still am, pathetically, a huge fan of The Breakfast Club! I always thought it was way too harsh to keep badly behaved teenagers in extended detension, and thought the principal was far too mean.

I am now a lot older and agree totally with the whole concept!!

Steve "The Miz" Mizerak

Legendary pool player dies aged 61. I think his fame qualifies him for this thread. Didn't he feature in those ill-fated programmes with Steve "Interesting" Davis & co. where they pitted snooker players and pool players against each other playing both sports (and possibly billiards too - hell, I can't remember!).

Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

Also appeared in "The Color [sic] of Money"

Shohei Imamura, Japanese film maker and two time winner of Canne's Palme d'Or,

has died aged 79 from liver cancer.

Damn. In more than one way. A fine director he was; I've enjoyed several of his films. And why weren't we notified he was ill?

regards,

Hein

I remember Topper. It was really crap & you only bought it if they'd sold out of all the others.

Raymond Davis Jr., 2002 Nobel Prize Laureate.

What annoys me most about this is that Davis was #2 in the list of oldest living physics nobel laureates. I have #s 1 and 3 on my DDP list. :banghead:

At 79 isn't it possible that he just died of old age?

Yes it is, but he didn't. He died from liver cancer.

And by the way, 79 is not that old. Especially not for the Japanese, who tend to grow ridiculously old, probably because of the raw fish and the sake.

I think Petruska Clarkson has committed suicide. It'll be highly ironic if it's true given that she's a leading psychotherapist and someone who's made a study of death. Can't find an obit on the Internet but was told about this a couple of days back.
