Octopus of Odstock 2,249 Posted September 27, 2007 Bill Perry, one of only two remaining players from Blackpool's winning team in the 1953 "Matthews" Final, and the man who scored the other (and winning) goal in that game & won 3 caps for England has died, from cancer, aged 77. That's Deeley, Porterfield & Perry, all three FA Cup winning goalscorers, dead in a month. Eric Cantona next, perhaps?

harrymcnallysblueandwhitearmy 1,726 Posted September 28, 2007 Japanese journalist Kenji Nagai, shot dead in Burma. This obituary can also stand for all the Burmese killed and about to be killed in the name of freedom, if that's not too pompous of me.

Whitehouse 884 Posted September 29, 2007 Earlier this wek, Eriki Hazelhoff Roelfzema died. Resistance hero, managed to escape to England in 1941, flew 70 sorties over enemy territory in a Spitfire. The Royal Dutch House is in mourning over him. His wrote his autobigraphy which was later put to film, to great acclaim. Still one of my favorite films. True hero and all around nice chap. R.I.P. Octopus of Odstock 2,249 Posted September 29, 2007 What's the status on Cyril Robinson's health? We know he's 78 but does he have any health issues? Apparently healthy, or at least, not ill. He, like Perry, had been at reunions & celebrations recently. The one thing is though, Perry got a lot of obits, but he did score the winning goal in probably the most famous FA Cup final ever, and was an England cap, whereas Robinson was a stalwart player, and might not quite get the same coverage. But great minds think alike, because I thought, hmmm... Robinson, might be worth a bet. As it is, I do have a footballer on my DDP 2008 list, but I'm keeping it a secret for now. It's not Jimmy Langley, who is on my current list - this guy played in a World Cup Finals tournament in the last 30 years. That narrows it down a bit. I suppose you're mourning the recent death of Reading's entire defence! Certainment Although by the end, my reaction was a strange one... I was laughing my socks off - what a farcial match By the way, the World Cup player is NOT from the UAE or Norway. That's too many clues now as you now have 2,476 players left to choose from.
