GERALD FORD AINT GONNA DIE BECAUSE GLENN FORD DIED 2 WEEKS AGO AND I CANT SEE 2 G FORDS DYING SO CLOSE TOGETHER!

It could be three. The Ford Motor Company is in trouble. :D

Ahh but that would be a "B Ford" or rather "W Ford" depends if you call him Bill or William.

Although the only way I can see Bill Ford dying is by suicide as he was quite happy to step down as CEO.

Am I right in thinking that the kind of brainless drive-by business we've been shipping on these threads has notably increased since Iain was banned?

Not only that, but occassionally I swear I've seen iain himself post on here, only to have his posts mysteriously disappear.

Perhaps like this one will... all evidence must be destroyed... ;)

I just news googled Gerald Ford and today is the 25th anniversary of the opening of his presidential library in Grand Rapids, Michigan and no he will not be in attendence for the anniversary, I bet the next time he goes there will be for his funeral. Another anniversary, another opportunity to have a timely death, although this kind of pales in comparison to the day he became president and the day he pardoned Nixon as far as irony is concerned.

In terms of what people have said about why havent we heard more news about Gerald Ford's health, well for one Ford doesnt have the same paparazzi factor as other ex-presidents and thus unless something really major happens it isnt going to be news. He is a 93 year old with major health problems, he could die today or he could live for years to come. Unless I hear something new or there are any new major developments I say things are looking fairly good for him to break Reagan's record in November.

Gerald Ford to attend event in Michigan

Ford Public Policy school to have special guest

Updated: Oct 2, 2006 04:17 PM

GRAND RAPIDS - Gerald Ford is returning to Michigan next week for the dedication of the public policy school named in his honor at his alma mater.

The former president will be at the University of Michigan on October 13 for the ceremony for the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy.

Ford, 93, and his wife, Betty, plus other family members will attend the event, which is closed to the public.

Well apparently that pace maker and angioplasty did him some good and he is not on his death bed if he is healthy enough to travel to and attend an event. It will be interesting to look at pictures of him from the event when they are released. I imagine he wont be speaking though, I saw a clip of him from this spring from when Bush visited him and his speech is quite slow and slurred now. Still its pretty impressive that a 93 year old ex-president is still well enough to attend events. I say he will at least break Reagan's record for sure.

Current update: Ford is currently very ill. The marine corps has already been planning his funeral for when he passes away. This year has been a very trying year for him.

Thirty days short of that record, the tension mounts eh?

Mind, other than the drive by post above I'm struggling to find a reputable news provider that'll confirm a sudden and serious downturn in his health.

I doubt it. He is scheduled to attend an event at the University of Michigan on Oct 13th (tomorrow) according to this article.

It would be interesting to see how he looks in the photos from that event

My guess is that you're both sort of wrong. He is in the hospital (which means unlikely to attend the event tomorrow), but it doesn't seem as if he's dying.

They keep doing those medical tests on him, the poor bugger. One would expect that after so many years the results are known.

Hein

One wonders how many more tests the man can undergo.

He seems to spend as much time in hospital as he does at home.

Come on Gerald time to give up your enfeebled grip on life.

Tempus man, they'll keep him gannin to November 12th if they can. Still leaves us plenty of scope to - like - score.

Gerald Ford has few time of life. His death seem to be imminent.

Reagan's record, yes. Two years, c'mon, before you bet on that ask yourself why so many bookmakers drive decent cars.

Slightly off-topic, but I can't help but notice that, quite often, those who were less-successful at what they did tend to last longer.

Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford etc were hardly the greatest presidents (okay, Regan is an odd one).

Also, take the Beatles - Ringo Starr was, in many people's minds, the worst of the lot - but I reckon he'll be the last one of the "main" four left.

UK party leaders could also be thrown into the mix - Foot, Callaghan etc. Two of the least successful party leaders of all time, yet they one is still living and one lived to a ripe old age.

If that theory proves correct then Iain Duncan Smith will make it to at least 120.

Is it true, I mean really true that Gerald Ford has no middle toe on his left foot? Is this perhaps why he has lived for so long a time?

I guess because Ford hasn't been taken to the Mayo Clinic for the tests that it's not to do with his pacemaker.

So I'm thinking we'll find out once he's been released, like last time.

I opened my eyes a couple minutes after seven this morning with the news on the bottom of the TV screen saying that Ford was back in the hospital. I mean he is such a pain in the ass. Of course this is routine. I expect to hear of his release by lunch time tommorow.

If the above is correct he'll make it to January 1st and rule himself out for us. Mebbe he could be chased next year to post here. Long shot but it'd be a coup of monumental proportions.

Re the longevity comments above. Whatever Carter's failings as a president he's - arguably - the most successful ex-president in living memory given his work for international peace brokering.

Dunno if he still keeps an interest in peanut farming, mind.

Wonderinng has Smirky ever been on the annuall listing before?

As for Ford, I saw on the news last night that he is canceling alll immediate public appearances.
