Bibliogryphon 9,570 Posted August 21, 2012 Hein's posts have got me thinking and last night I could not think of a single multiple murder from a non-English speaking nation (with the exception of Brevik, but I thought that was because it was recent and politically motivated). Do seriel killers tend to get reported outside of their own media?

myf 0 Posted August 21, 2012 Japan tends to do a nasty line in serial killers/multiple murderers. I think they sometimes get coverage in the UK (and presumably other places too) but they don't usually stick in the mind as readily. A few in places such as South America get mentions occasionally. Now you mention it I recognise Marc Dutroux's name but I would not have been able to summon it and this case was noticable because it was linked to corruption at high levels. I notice Mark Chapman is up for parole again - another person who sparks fierce debate but he only killed one person!
Magere Hein 1,400 Posted August 21, 2012 (edited) Interestingly, there's quite a row in Belgium at the moment about Michelle Martin, wife of Dutroux at the time of his crimes. In 2004, eight years after she was arrested, she was sentenced to 30 years in prison for murder, accessory to murder and kidnapping. A court in Mons decided on 31 juli 2012 to grant her conditional early release. This decision is now being challenged by, amongs others, Jean Lambrecks, father of one of Dutroux's victims. She's still in jail. Some English language news sources reporting on this The Huffington Post, The Daily Mail, BBC and The Torygraph. regards, Hein Edited August 21, 2012 by Magere Hein Added English news sources. Nope. http://www.channel5.com/shows/born-to-kill/episodes/myra-hindley#comments thats what they said......but as they also have up a picture of Beverly Allitt instead of Hindley I think we can assume that is just the standard of CH5..... She's been released and lives in a convent in Malonne in Wallonia.Last week she was spotted in Flemish seaside resort Knokke, where apparently she had a haircut by an expensive barber, causing all sorts of dismay and political trouble. regards, Hein

This is the sort of thing that probably keeps Charles up at night... Its interesting Because I would think he would have to receive one , to get a telegram the only criteria is to be a UK citizen or UK born and living to 100. Doesn't say anything about criminals or child killers not receiving one. Though I can just see the sun (hopefully its out of print by then ) headline Ian Brady honoured by charlie / willis etc etc . maryportfuncity 10,641 Posted December 23, 2012 The Queen is more than a decade Brady's senior, Charles, or William would send him a telegram. Or whoever is in charge after the revolution!!
Toast 16,129 Posted December 23, 2012 The Queen is more than a decade Brady's senior, Charles, or William would send him a telegram. Or whoever is in charge after the revolution!! But they don't have to, do they? Surely it's at Her/His Majesty's pleasure so if it doesn't please whoever's in the chair, then they needn't do it.

Death Impends 7,957 Posted December 23, 2012 There's at least one UK criminal who made it to 100: http://en.wikipedia..../Constance_Kent A search for "constance kent telegram" will bring up mentions that George VI sent her one for her centennial.
