I suppose ordinarily for me the obvious choice would be three of these, but tonight it would be:

Life's a Gas - T. Rex

Sweet Gene Vincent - Ian Drury and the Blockheads

Give Up the Funk - Parliament Funkadelic

I can't believe none of the Graves opted for

Or

, another French classic of 2006

Au moins Yannick Noah.

Glad to see you are not fully embracing the French music scene.

What with Johnny Hallyday becoming Belgian, and Renaud moving to London, soon there will be no 'French music scene'. No great loss there then. Some things are better imported, if the source is a good one. Stick to what you are good at :referee: .

They don't want him - probably because they can't stiff him for tax, which in Belgium is too high. Another one of the many downsides of living here and not home in sunny Hampshire. I swear to God it rains more here and I am nowhere near the sea.

Great thread as most of us will come up with a different selection each time we answer (though not many will be French I fancy)

My favourite three at the moment (all 2007 songs) are:

First Night by The Hold Steady

Yankee Bayonet by The Decemberists

Phantom Limb by The Shins

The Thrill is Gone- BB King

Super Freak- Rick James

My Humps- Black Eyed Peas

(But I also agree with Han that "Celluloid Heroes" by the Kinks is wonderful)

As long as we're at it, why not consider three in one, Robert Palmer's "Trilogy"

(Sailin' Shoes, Sneakin' Sally through the Alley and Hey Julia) ?

Here are three that sprang to mind when I saw this thread.

Stardust performed by the composer, Hoagy Carmichael.

- not the famous and excellent studio version but live at Olympia, presumably many, many years later and still in the same key. Notice the appearance of George Melly's jacket about half way through. It's interesting to note that Charles Trenet also wore the hat!

Blame Canada! :D All the female voices are performed by the late Mary Kay Bergman.

Shake Your Hips - Slim Harpo

Aaaarrrgghhh!!! The thread I've always feared. I once thumbed my nose at the very idea of a 'what's your favourite tune' thread as an argument to show why the DL was better than some awful forums I've visited before... :D

But I'm comfortable enough with my own hypocrisy to join in, of course. :) This list applies to the precise time of this post only: -

1) Porn Shoes - The French

2) I Took Her Love For Granted - Hefner

3) Summer Breeze - The Isley Brothers

The fact that I heard all of these on my mp3 player on the train this morning is at least 95% why I picked those three, if not 96%.

On reflection, this isn't the thread I always feared, that was a 'what are you listening to right now?' thread. That little beauty (not on this site I hasten to add) had tens and tens of thousands of posts of people reeling off albums one track at a time for what seemed to be days on end, with the odd reply post of 'Awesome!' or 'That sucks' thrown in for good measure... not that the dullness stopped me looking through tens of pages in disbelief first! :D

I don't really have any favourite songs or even artists for that matter.

But I guess if I'm going to have to pick some, then...

No Hard Shoulder to Cry on - Julian Cope

Louisa on a Horse - John Otway.

First We Take Manhattan - Leonard Cohen

You are tempting fate there - someone will start the thread just to spite you. Probably on a day when you are really pressed for time but yet being a sucker for distractions flick through tens of pages in disbelief before being driven to desperation and becoming the first DLer to cark it.

I once read the entire Richard O'Sullivan thread in one afternoon to see what the fuss was all about.

The fact that I not only still live, but willingly visit this site, means I think I'll be able to take it. :D
